We're calling for a draw, but don't expect the scoreboard to stay quiet.

Coventry City are looking to build on their first EPL win of the season, which they recorded at Nottingham Forest in their last outing. Newcastle is higher in the table but not as good as the results suggest.

My Coventry vs. Newcastle prediction expects goals to come in what should be an even affair. Read on for my analysis and free picks for Monday’s match, which kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

Coventry vs Newcastle predictions

My Coventry vs Newcastle top pick: Draw (27% probability)

Coventry won at Nottingham Forest last time out but cannot be backed with any confidence. They've scored just once in their opening five games of the season and are creating too few chances to pose a threat consistently.

Newcastle is the stronger side. They are 2-2-1 for the season, and showcased their ability to see off weaker opposition when they beat Hull City (2-1, home) and Tottenham (2-0, away).

Still, Newcastle have lost the xG (expected goals) battle in all five matches and cannot keep defying the numbers. I'm playing the draw and would do so up to 30%.

My Coventry vs Newcastle Over/Under pick: Over 2.5 (58% probability)

The attacking style of football Newcastle are playing under their new manager, Matthias Jaissle, has resulted in a flood of scoring chances in their games.

Newcastle is averaging 2.88 expected goals across their first five matches, with an xG north of 2.5 in three of those games. Four of the five matches went Over 2.5 goals, with three of the games seeing 4+ total goals.

Newcastle’s preference will be to suck Coventry into a shootout, and then outscore them. Play the Over up to 65%.

Coventry vs Newcastle combo

Draw

Both teams to score

The draw alone may be a sufficient long shot for you, but if you're looking for an even bigger upside, add in both teams to score.

Coventry is struggling to score, but Newcastle is the perfect team to pull them out of their funk. The visitors will leave wide-open spaces in defense as they chase the win, so the hosts should enjoy more scoring opportunities than they generally have in their EPL games this season.
