Man United’s shot volume gives the hosts the edge against a Tottenham side struggling to create chances. James Eastham backs the Red Devils and a lower-scoring result at Old Trafford.

Two teams searching for answers meet at Old Trafford on Saturday as struggling Man United welcome a Tottenham side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

The hosts are winless in their last four matches in all competitions, while Spurs have yet to win through their opening five league fixtures.

My Man United vs. Tottenham predictions back the Red Devils to take advantage of Tottenham's attacking issues, with a lower-scoring matchup also catching my eye.

Read on for my analysis and free picks for Saturday's 12:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

Man United vs Tottenham predictions

My Man United vs Tottenham top pick: Manchester United to win (58% probability)

Shot-happy Man United have attempted a Premier League-high 113 shots this season. And while they have won just one of their opening five fixtures (1W-2D-2L), only five teams have scored more than United's eight goals.

That extra final-third quality is the main reason I'm backing the hosts. Tottenham are averaging a mediocre 1.00 xG per game and have scored in just one of their first five Premier League fixtures under Roberto De Zerbi.

The goals should eventually come for Spurs, but right now United's superior shot volume and finishing give them the edge at Old Trafford. I'd play Manchester United up to 62%.

My Man United vs Tottenham Over/Under pick: Under 3.5 goals (59% probability)

There is pressure on both struggling sides to win, but there may be even more pressure to avoid another defeat, particularly for Tottenham.

Winless through five league matches (0W-2D-3L), Spurs can ill afford another setback. De Zerbi will also be well aware that Man United have scored 11 times in four home matches across all competitions, making containing the hosts his first priority.

That points toward a more cautious Tottenham setup than the matchup might initially suggest. I think the market is underrating the chances of three or fewer goals, and I'd play the Under 3.5 up to 65%.

Man United vs Tottenham combo

Manchester United to win

Under 3.5 goals

Combining my two main picks gives us several realistic United winning scorelines without requiring this match to turn into a shootout. By using Under 3.5 instead of Under 2.5, 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, and 3-0 all get us home.

There are defensive injury concerns on both sides, so neither back line is guaranteed to be at full strength. But both teams could also be missing important attacking pieces, which gives me another reason not to expect a flood of goals at Old Trafford.
