Matthew Tkachuk Odds and Props: Big Game Looms For Star Forward

Matthew Tkachuk has been relatively quiet in the box score of late but he's generally been a force for the Panthers throughout these playoffs. Our Tkachuk spotlight expects a return to form tonight in Game 2 against the Oilers.

Matthew Tkachuk best bets

Tkachuk anytime goalscorer (+205)

Now is the time to buy low on Matthew Tkachuk, who hasn’t scored in six games. He is still one of the Florida Panthers' most talented forwards, and he will score sooner rather than later.

Despite the recent struggles, Tkachuk is still tied for second on Florida in even-strength goals this postseason. I mention that because the Oilers bleed high-danger scoring chances at 5-on-5, ranking 11th out of the 16 playoff teams this postseason in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

Therefore, it shouldn’t be too surprising that Tkachuk has scored seven goals over the past 13 meetings between these two teams. He possesses the ability to find the back of the net from anywhere in the offensive zone and is too talented to keep being held off the scoresheet.

Tkachuk Over 2.5 SOG (-170)

If we are backing Tkachuk to find the back of the net, then we obviously need him to register some shots on goal. We have to lay a big number here, but three SOG shouldn’t be too difficult to come by.

Tkachuk has recorded three or more shots on goal in four of his past five games. Yes, he failed to surpass this number in Game 1, but he also played fewer than 14 minutes in his lowest amount of ice time since the beginning of April.

Tkachuk isn’t going to be as quiet in Game 2, and I expect him to come out firing after a relatively disappointing personal performance in the series opener.
