The Colorado Avalanche look to build upon the best record in hockey as they host the New York Rangers on Thursday evening.
Each of Colorado’s past three wins have come by at least a two-goal margin, and my Rangers vs. Avalanche predictions expect this trend to continue.
Read on for my NHL picks for Thursday, November 20.
Rangers vs Avalanche prediction
Rangers vs Avalanche Best bet: Avalanche -1.5 (+115)
The Colorado Avalanche are not only the superior team in this matchup, but they are undoubtedly the best team in hockey. They have just one regulation loss through their first 19 games, which is four fewer than the next-best team.
The most impressive aspect of this dominance is the fact that Colorado is exceling in all three zones. Entering this matchup, it ranks in the Top 2 in both expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) and expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).
Not only are the Avs dominating in all three zones, but they’re also receiving excellent goaltending. Scott Wedgewood is once again slated to start between the pipes, and he carries a spectacular 11-1-2 record with a .917 SV% and 2.17 GAA into this matchup.
He outranks New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin in all three of those categories. That differential takes away the Rangers’ greatest strength, given that they rank in the bottom half of the league in both xGF/60 and xGA/60.

Rangers vs Avalanche same-game parlay
If Colorado is to win this game, it will need scoring production. There may not be a better candidate than Martin Necas, who enters this contest in dominant form with four goals over the past three games.
There’s also a strong correlation with Nathan MacKinnon recording an assist, given that he skates alongside Necas on the first line and has assisted on two of those four goals.
Rangers vs Avalanche SGP
- Avalanche -1.5
- Martin Necas anytime goal
- Nathan MacKinnon 1+ assists
