The puck drops on Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers tonight at Lenovo Center, with the Cats looking to climb out to a 2-0 series lead on the road. TNT has the coverage beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Seth Jarvis hit his shots prop Over in the first period in the series opener two night ago, and my Panthers vs. Hurricanes predictions and NHL picks for Thursday, May 22 believe he’ll continue firing the puck at an elite rate in this spot.
Who will win Panthers vs Hurricanes Game 2?
The Hurricanes are favored at -130 to win tonight and even the series at 1-1, and I believe they’ll get it done in Raleigh.
Carolina suffered its first home loss of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Game 1 despite outplaying the Panthers. The Canes overwhelmed the Cats, outshooting them 33-20 while generating 15 high-danger shots to Florida’s five. The Hurricanes also finished with a 64% expected goals rating.
Carolina will win this game and end its astonishing 13-game losing streak in the Eastern Conference Final.
Panthers vs Hurricanes prediction
My Panthers vs Hurricanes pick: Seth Jarvis Over 2.5 shots on goal (-125 at Sports Interaction)
As long as the books continue mispricing the Seth Jarvis shot prop, I’ll keep betting on it.
Jarvis recorded three shots on goal in the opening frame for the Carolina Hurricanes to cash the bet in Game 1, and has gone Over 2.5 shots in three straight games and five of his last seven outings.
The young Carolina forward is building confidence the deeper his team goes into the playoffs. In the last three games, he’s become a more confident shooter with 17 shot attempts, landing an average of 4.33 shots on net over those outings.
Carolina overwhelmed the Florida Panthers and won 64% of the minutes in Game 1. When Jarvis was on the ice, the Canes outshot Florida 17-6. Those 17 shots led the Hurricanes, furthering my faith in his ability to generate offense at a high level.
The Hurricanes are a dominant puck possession team that has spent an NHL-best 46.6% of their games in the offensive zone, resulting in a league-leading 74.45 shot attempts per game, culminating in 30.8 shots per game on average.
Furthermore, Jarvis’ line with Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov averages 89.4 shot attempts per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play, second best only to a trio of Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman, and Leon Draisaitl, who have played sparingly together this postseason.
The Canes forward played just under 19 minutes in Game 1, but has averaged over 20 minutes a game for Carolina throughout the postseason while being one of their biggest drivers offensively with top-line and No. 1 power play duties.
Furthermore, Jarvis’ role as an elite play driver should give him plenty of opportunities to muster up three shots on net for a fourth straight game.
Panthers vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)
I’ll continue to pound the shot props and take Sam Bennett to record 2+ shots on goal. He averages 3.07 shots per game this postseason and led Florida with five in Game 1. He has also hit this number in five straight playoff games.
For the final leg of my SGP, I’ll take the Hurricanes on the moneyline.
Carolina was the better team in Game 1 and deserved a better result. They should play with immense urgency tonight and win, as they can’t afford to go down 0-2 with the series shifting back to Florida.
