The Philadelphia Flyers come into this game as heavy NHL betting underdogs and will look to end their four-game slide against the rival New York Rangers. The home team comes into this game having recent trouble of its own after being shut out on its own ice Friday night.

The Flyer's season might not have any hope, but they would be more than happy to spoil the party in Madison Square Garden tonight against a team looking to create some separation in the clogged Eastern Conference standings.

Will the visiting side be able to play spoiler or will New York take care of business as the home favorites? Find out in our free NHL betting picks and predictions for Flyers vs. Rangers on Sunday, April 3.

Flyers vs Rangers picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

This is a very important matchup for the New York Rangers as the regular season begins to wind down. With playoffs in a month every game from here on out matters and teams need to make sure they don't let wins they should get slip away.

So for New York, the first twenty minutes is going to be the focus in order to set the tone for the rest of the game.

The Flyers are a complete dumpster fire right now. They have lost four straight games and have been outscored by their opponents 21-11 in that span.

They have been consistently one of the worst offensive teams in the league all season long and are currently averaging 2.57 goals per game with an expected to score 2.63 goals per 60 minutes. One of the biggest factors as to why their offense is incredibly weak is how poor their power-play has been.

They have the worst man-advantage unit in the entire NHL, only converting on 13.3% of their opportunities. These numbers are alarming and the fact that they are playing against one of the better teams in the league doesn’t help their chances.

Despite being shut out in their last game, the Ranger's offense has been buzzing, scoring a total of 18 goals in their last 5. The Ranger's power-play is the complete opposite of Philadelphia as New York has the second-best unit, converting on 26.6% of its chances.

This team was 50% on its man-advantage opportunities the last time these two teams met and that is an area it will look to exploit in this matchup.

The Rangers are the much better team of the two and they understand how important each game is right now, especially on home ice. I expect a strong bounce-back performance and a win for the betting favorites.

Prediction: Rangers moneyline (-300 at BetMGM)

Over/Under analysis

Neither team has announced a starting goaltender for tonight, but the expected matchup is Martin Jones for the Flyers and Igor Shesterkin for the Rangers.

Martin Jones hasn’t had a particularly good season for Philly and has only one win in his last four starts. This season, Jones is skating to an 8-14-3 record with a 3.40 GAA and a .900 SV%, along with a -4.1 GSAx.

In his defense, the Flyers team defense has been brutal in front of him. They allow 12.19 high-danger chances against along with the fourth-most shots on goal against per game, allowing 34 a contest.

New York should be able to control the play for most of the game with how weak its opponent is defensively, and Philadelphia might have some problems scoring goals on Shesterkin.

The Ranger's star goalie may have lost his last game, but the last time he faced the Flyers he made 26 saves on 28 shots and led his team to a 3-2 victory. Shesterkin has been incredible in net all season, as he is second amongst all goaltenders with a 32.1 GSAx.

The Flyers have been struggling to score goals lately and I don’t think that issue will be resolved today. The Rangers should be able to put some pucks past Jones, but I still think this game will stay Under 6.0.

Prediction: Under 6 (-110 at BetMGM)

Best bet

New York has been coming out of the gate strong in most games since the deadline. It is 2-2-1 in the first periods of its last five games, but against a much weaker opponent like Philly, it will dictate the pace of the game.

The Flyer's goaltending and defense are much weaker than that of the Rangers and they have shown their ability to respond to adversity all season long. I have a ton of faith in their ability to score goals early and often, and that is exactly what I expect from them tonight while also limiting their opponent's chances.

The first twenty minutes will be crucial tonight and I like the Rangers to come out hard and win the first frame.

Pick: Rangers -0.5 first period puckline (+100 at BetMGM)
