The New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings (51%) have both played at Top-10 paces this season, setting up a good environment for goals.
Jesper Bratt has assisted in eight of his last 11 against Detroit, and my Devils vs. Red Wings predictions are targeting the star winger for another helper tonight.
Read on for my full breakdown and NHL picks for Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Devils vs Red Wings prediction: Over 5.5
The Over is appealing to 58%.
The pace of play in this game should be great, even with the New Jersey Devils in a back-to-back.
Improved depth and team speed has allowed them to play a lot faster this year, and they are the highest-event team at 5-on-5 this season. The Detroit Red Wings aren’t far behind, sitting ninth.
A lot of that stems from shot-generation, with New Jersey and Detroit holding down the No. 1 and No. 2 slots at 5-on-5.
Both sides have also piled up the shots on the power play, and both teams rank Bottom-6 in goals against per 60 on the penalty kill.

Devils vs Red Wings combo
I’m combining the Over of 5.5 with Jesper Bratt to record an assist and Lucas Raymond to pick up a point.
Bratt has assisted in eight of his last 11 games against Detroit, and the extremely high projected pace in this game should fit his skillset perfectly alongside Jack Hughes.
Raymond averaged 1.1 points per game and hit the scoresheet in 69% of his appearances at home last year.
He’s also working on two days of rest against a fatigued opponent, which will only help his cause. The Devils allowed 3+ goals in nine of 14 back-to-backs last season.
Devils vs Red Wings combo
- Over 5.5 goals
- Jesper Bratt Over 0.5 assists
- Lucas Raymond Over 0.5 points
TOP PICK
Devils vs Red Wings player prop: Jesper Bratt Over 0.5 assists
Bratt is the best pure facilitator on the Devils, and I like him to pick up a helper to 54%.
The Devils have spent a ton of time on the front foot with Bratt on the ice, generating 74.35 shot attempts and 3.64 expected goals per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play. Those are elite rates.
He also spends a ton of time with the puck on the power play, holding it around the perimeter while looking for seam passes that create high-danger opportunities.
The Red Wings rank ninth in pace and 26th in shorthanded time per game, which should only feed into Bratt’s transition play and half-court creation on the man advantage.
Devils vs Red Wings goal scorer: Lucas Raymond
I’m backing Raymond to notch his first goal of the season.
He’s threatened as a shooter through five games, generating 34 shot attempts, 17 shots on target, and 1.6 expected goals. He just hasn’t converted.
This is a good spot to change that. The Devils have played at the league’s highest pace at 5-on-5, and they’ve struggled to keep the puck out on the penalty kill.
Jake Allen owns a modest .896 SV% on the year. He’s competent, but he’s not someone to be scared of targeting. Trust Raymond’s volume to lead to results.
