Blues vs Avalanche Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Colorado Tightens Up on the Back End

Colorado and St. Louis have seen their games going Under the total in the early goings. The Avs have perhaps the best blue line in the game while the Blues have been bailed out by Jordan Binnington. Will this trend continue? Our betting picks investigate.

We have a Central Division tilt for tonight's TNT double-header as the Colorado Avalanche host the St. Louis Blues.

Both teams are looking to bounce back from low-scoring losses. NHL odds have the home side favored by a considerable margin.

Will we see another low-scoring affair, or can the goals pick up? Find out in our free NHL picks for Blues vs. Avalanche on Wednesday, November 1.

Blues vs Avalanche predictions

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has been the highlight of the team’s brief season thus far, posting a .926 SV% and 2.33 GAA through five starts. There have been six or fewer total goals scored in all five of those outings.

Another factor of these low-scoring games has been St. Louis’ terrible offense. At 5-on-5, it ranks last in the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60).

That is going to be especially problematic against the Colorado Avalanche blue line, which is possibly the best in hockey. Despite boasting a powerhouse offense to pair with a great defense, there have still been five or fewer total goals scored in five of the Avs’ past seven games, which is a testament to that blue line.

The biggest question mark for the Under in this contest is goaltender Ivan Prosvetov, who is expected to make the start for Colorado. It will be his first start with the club after he was claimed as another option due to Pavel Francouz’s injury.

Prosvetov has made one appearance in relief this year, stopping all five pucks he saw. Unsurprisingly, any goaltender over the past few years to play behind this defense tends to do well.

Finally, special teams should not be too much of an issue in taking the Under here as both clubs rank in the bottom half of the league in PP% but the top half in PK%.

Blues vs Avalanche same-game parlay

Under 6.5

Avalanche ML

The line is north of two dollars on Colorado in this matchup, which makes sense. St. Louis is not a good team, Binnington has just been bailing them out.

Meanwhile, the Avs carry a two-game losing streak into their home rink on national television — which is as good a spot as any for one of the league’s Cup contenders to bounce back. At 5-on-5, Colorado ranks higher than the Blues in both xGF/60 and expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

I think Binnington should keep this game close, but the Avalanche are a much stronger team all over the ice.

Blues vs Avalanche moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Avalanche opened as a –230 favorite and have since been bet up to -235. I would be shocked if this line moves too much in either direction, as the market may be hesitant to push Colorado any closer to –250 given the relative uncertainty of Prosvetov.

That brings us to the total, which opened at 6.5 and remains at that number. With that said, I like the Under 6 at +106 much more than laying 22 cents of juice at 6.5, although I think there is still value in that number if you wish to go that route.

Additionally, if you look below, there is a strong Under trend when these two clubs meet.
