Wild Card NFL Teasers: Stafford's Comfort Key to Rams Success in Detroit

Venue often plays a key role in the NFL playoffs, and this Wild Card Weekend is no exception. Find out why our NFL picks think the Rams will be just fine in Detroit, and why the Cowboys will make light work of Green Bay.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's teaser time!

Just because the regular season has come to an end doesn't mean our teaser bets have to. We finished the regular season on a strong note, picking up a teaser win last week and it was a sweaty one, so a shout-out goes to Tyler Huntley for driving the Ravens down the field and to Justin Tucker for kicking a 36-yarder with 16 seconds remaining to clinch one of our Week 18 legs.

The 2024 edition of Super Wild Card weekend is setting up to be especially wild with some extreme weather that's likely to wreak havoc in both Buffalo and Kansas City, while interesting storylines will set the stage for the other games as teams look to solidify their Super Bowl odds.

We obviously have fewer NFL odds for teaser legs this week, so put a little bit of extra attention into the Wild Card odds selections. I tend to think that extreme weather can lend itself to extreme results from time to time, so maybe play it safe and avoid the games in Buffalo and KC.

I opted for a few teams playing indoors for my NFL picks this week, but whatever you decide to do, best of luck and I'll catch you next week!

Wild Card Teaser

Cowboys (-7 to -1) vs Packers

There's been a lot of "they're just happy to be here" talk regarding the Packers this week, which very well might be true. They've truly got nothing to lose as not much was expected from them. But it's a different story for the Cowboys, who'll be looking for a strong start in the playoffs after numerous disappointing, and often humiliating, conclusions to their seasons.

I think we'll see a repeat performance from last season's Wild Card round from the Cowboys where they smacked the Buccaneers 31-14. The major difference in this game is that it'll take place in Dallas, where the Cowboys are undefeated this season with six of their wins coming by 20 or more points.

The Cowboys' offense really stood out at home, where they averaged an impressive 37.4 points per game, and I don't see the Packers being able to keep up. Green Bay's defense has played a cupcake schedule of opposing quarterbacks and showed some red flags down the stretch by allowing back-to-back 30+ point games against the Bucs and the incompetent Panthers in Weeks 15 and 16.

Rams (+3 to +9) vs Lions

Outside of the Ravens, no one is hotter than the Rams entering the playoffs. They've won seven of their last eight games with the only loss being against the Ravens, in Baltimore, in overtime.

Their offense comes into this game on absolute fire, averaging 31.3 points in Matthew Stafford's last six starts (he sat in Week 18), with at least 26 points scored in each. Their offense will have a few major advantages in this game, most notably, through the air. The Lions rank 30th in yards per pass attempt allowed while Los Angeles is third in yards per completion.

Also, expect touchdowns and not field goals when the Rams get in close, as this is a matchup between the fourth-ranked red-zone offense and the 29th-ranked red-zone defense.

Los Angeles has just one loss by more than nine points in games that Stafford started in this season. We also can't overlook the experience factor of a team that's played in two of the last five Super Bowls facing an opponent who hasn't won a playoff game since 1991!
