Coincidently, the first day of fall coincides with the bulk of NFL games in Week 3. We bid goodbye to summer on Sunday, ushering in autumn and all of its crazy weather.

As temperatures drop over the next few weeks, winds pick up and present the most disruptive element to the NFL odds and outcomes. What does that have in store for Week 3 NFL picks? Honestly, not that much.

I look at the extended forecasts for this week’s NFL venues and highlight how you should handicap the Week 3 NFL odds in my NFL Week 3 weather report.

Denver Broncos at Tampa Bay Buccaneers weather

Autumn may be here but it’s September in Florida, which means high humidity making baby powder a priority.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers give the Denver Broncos a spoonful of that soupy weather in Week 3, with temperatures reaching “feels like” levels of 106 degrees for this 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

That blend of heat and humidity is a challenge for teams early in the season as they work themselves back into “game shape”. And for anyone who’s ever played competitive sports, you know practice doesn’t cut it. The only way to get into game shape is to play games.

Depth on defense could be a problem for Tampa Bay, with multiple starters listed as questionable for a unit already down key pieces in the secondary.

The pace of play can give an offense an edge, especially if they go no-huddle. Through two weeks, the Broncos have run the ninth-highest rate of hurry-up and average the 12th most plays per game on offense.

Green Bay Packers at Tennessee Titans weather

It’s a hot one in “Smashville” with the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans facing “feels like” temperatures around 100 degrees inside Nissan Stadium.

Again, this type of humid climate can wear down a roster quickly early into the schedule, and you’ll see guys cramping in the final two quarters.

Tennessee is relatively injury-free while Green Bay could possibly have Jordan Love back at QB. He did practice lightly with the team on Wednesday, but barring a miracle it will likely be Malik Willis squaring off against his former club.

Neither offense runs an up-tempo attack, ranked near the bottom of no-huddle rates.

Miami Dolphins at Seattle Seahawks weather

The Miami Dolphins make a massive trip to the Emerald City where potential rain could be waiting for this Week 3 matchup.

According to forecasts for Seattle, brief showers could show up during this 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff with a 55% chance of precipitation.

That could leave field conditions slick on the FieldTurf surface (it drains really well) and create a challenge hanging on to wet footballs, should the rain show up. Some forecasts call for rain to pass before the start of this non-conference clash.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills weather

There is possible rain in store for the first of two Monday Night Football matchups in Week 3.

Some forecasts call for showers off and on throughout Monday and continuing through this 7:30 p.m. ET start in Orchard Park. As of Wednesday, that’s a 40% chance of rain while other models call for partly cloudy skies above Highmark Stadium.

A slippery ball could benefit the Buffalo Bills, since the Jacksonville Jaguars have ball control issues stemming back to last season. The Jaguars coughed up 16 fumbles in 2023 – second most – and have already fumbled once this season, which cost them a touchdown in Week 1’s loss.

Winds will blow at 9 mph SE with gusts getting as high as 17 mph at points, which isn’t enough to really plague long passes or the kicking game. But keep an eye on the rain and any possible uptick in wind speeds.

Washington Commanders at Cincinnati Bengals weather

The climate in Cincinnati could mirror the Cincinnati Bengals’ bummer 0-2 start to the season when they host the Washington Commanders in the second Monday showcase.

Some weather models forecast a slight chance rain for Paycor Stadium, with showers off and on all day. The 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff has as high as a 40% chance of rain, but some weather providers call for just cloudy skies with winds topping 9 mph.

Monday is still a ways off, so check back in later in the week for updates on the possible wet stuff on Monday Night Football.
