The Washington Commanders’ season went from bad to worse on Sunday night when Jayden Daniels suffered a gruesome elbow injury. That occurred in Washington’s fourth straight loss, this time a 38-14 home defeat to Seattle.

Detroit is also coming off an upset home loss, having dropped a 27-24 decision to Minnesota as 9.5-point favorites.

My Lions vs. Commanders predictions and NFL picks expect Detroit to bounce back on the road.

Lions vs Commanders predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Lions vs Commanders spread pick: Lions -8.5

It’s hard to cover by more than a touchdown on the road, but the Detroit Lions have already done it once this season in a 37-24 victory in Cincinnati.

In fact, most of their five wins have been by double digits, with the lone outlier being the 38-30 win in Baltimore as +4.5 underdogs.

On the flip side, the Washington Commanders have lost by 24, 21, 22, and one during their four-game losing streak, and they were -5.5 favorites in that one-point loss to the Bears.

Detroit will be hungry after a home loss, and the Lions will pounce a Washington side that has surely lost its star young QB for the season.

Early Lions vs Commanders total pick: Over 49.5

-108 at FanDuel

I would look to the Over in this game even with Daniels’ injury. Detroit is averaging 29.9 points per game, while the Commanders allow 26.2 points per game; therefore, the Lions should be able to reach or exceed their average.

It’s only getting worse for Washington, as it’s allowed 38, 28, and 44 in the last three outings.

The Lions should be able to get close enough to this number themselves, with the Commanders chipping in points in the high teens to eclipse the total.
