Superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson has been ruled out for the Baltimore Ravens clash against the Chicago Bears in Week 8.

There was initially optimism that the superstar quarterback would return to action following Baltimore's bye, but he was downgraded from questionable to out on Saturday afternoon.

I break down the Lamar Jackson odds for Bears vs. Ravens and detail how his injury status has affected the line movement throughout the week.

Is Lamar Jackson playing on Sunday?

Lamar Jackson will not play on Sunday despite originally being designated as questionable following Friday's practice.

Jackson has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, and the Baltimore Ravens were blown out in both contests, mustering a total of just 13 points.

The Ravens opened as 7-point home favorites against the Chicago Bears, with many confident that Jackson would be able to return after Baltimore's bye in Week 7. However, Jackson ran the scout team on Friday, which indicated that he wasn't quite ready to return despite logging a full practice.

That spread shrank to -3.5 on Saturday morning after Jackson was originally designated as "questionable." After the Ravens updated his previous practice to "limited" and officially ruled him out, the spread moved even further to -1.5.

Lamar Jackson's season-to-date performance

The two-time MVP was putting together another banner season before injuring his hamstring in Week 4.

Jackson has completed 71.6% of his passes for 869 yards, 10 touchdowns, and just one interception through four games. He also used his elite speed to pick up 166 yards and a score on 21 rush attempts.

Who do I bet on if Lamar Jackson doesn't play?

The Ravens' offense was disastrous with Cooper Rush at the helm over the past two games, which led to them naming Tyler Huntley their starting QB for Week 8.

Huntley completed 10-of-15 passes for 68 yards after replacing Rush in last week's loss to the Rams. He has averaged just 5.8 yards per pass attempt and 158.4 passing yards per game in 14 career starts — nine of which came with Baltimore between 2021 and 2023.

The Ravens have gone 3-12 straight up and 5-10 against the spread in 15 games without Jackson since 2020. It makes sense to fade them as favorites against a Bears squad that has won four in a row.
