San Francisco’s ability to keep drives alive gives it a path to covering more than a touchdown. The 49ers enter Week 6 first in third-down conversion rate, while Washington’s defense ranks 24th. Brock Purdy has taken just three sacks through five games, and the Commanders will be without edge defenders Charles Omenihu and Javontae Jean-Baptiste. That combination should give Purdy time to work through his reads even with Deebo Samuel ruled out and Mike Evans questionable. San Francisco has also averaged 17.8 second-half points against a Washington defense that ranks last in second-half points allowed, giving our projected 11-point margin a plausible route beyond an early lead.

The total is a much thinner call. Jayden Daniels practiced fully all week, but Washington will be without leading rusher Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and Stefon Diggs is questionable. Those absences put more pressure on Daniels to sustain drives. Our projected total of 51 clears Over 50.5 by just half a point; it does not support chasing an Over at 51.5 or 52.5. Josh Inglis makes the case for Under 52.5 in his Commanders vs. 49ers prediction, citing the offensive injuries. That higher number can coexist with our original Over, but Washington falling short of 20 points would threaten our selection.

George Kittle is a natural target for an offense missing one of its most versatile scoring threats. Kittle has four touchdowns this season, and Samuel’s absence removes another option from San Francisco’s passing game. Washington has allowed 14 passing touchdowns through five games, tied for the most in the league. With our forecast calling for 31 points from the 49ers, we like Kittle’s chances of finishing one of those scoring drives.

Tom Oldfield also backs Kittle in his Commanders vs. 49ers prop picks, highlighting Washington’s problems defending the pass. Christian McCaffrey remains competition for touchdowns near the goal line, and fewer healthy receivers could draw more defensive attention toward Kittle. Still, his established scoring role makes him our choice at a 46% Kalshi purchase quote. That percentage comes from the anytime-touchdown market; this is an AI-assisted editorial selection, separate from our team score forecast.

How our NFL AI predictions work

Our NFL AI predictions use a custom forecasting model built with GPT-6 Astra to project a final score for each matchup using historical scoring results and team-strength ratings. We review injuries and matchup news for the accompanying analysis.

The score forecasts are fixed before we compare them with the selected Kalshi spread and total to produce our ATS and Over/Under picks. Kalshi percentages are market quotes, separate from the score forecasts. Our touchdown pick is an AI-assisted editorial selection based on player usage and matchup research, not an output of the team-score model. We track results against the original selections and lines at time of publish.

We’ll continue updating the process as the season develops and publicly track every published score prediction, ATS pick, and Over/Under selection.

Odds and market lines are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change.
