There’s a massive AFC South showdown on Sunday as the Colts and Jaguars battle for control of the division. Both teams enter at 8–4, but they’re trending in opposite directions — Jacksonville has caught fire in recent weeks, while Indianapolis has started to slip.

My early Colts vs Jaguars predictions and NFL picks believe that the Jaguars will cover the spread.

The game will kick off at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 7, and you can watch by tuning into CBS.

Early Colts vs Jaguars spread pick: Jaguars +1.5

-105 at FanDuel

The Indianapolis Colts had a commanding lead in the AFC South earlier in the season and looked near certain to win the division. Over the past month, things have totally flipped with the Colts winning just one game in their last four, and the Jacksonville Jaguars winning four of their last five.

Daniel Jones has gone from a potential MVP candidate earlier in the season to somebody whose flaws are showing. He’s still above the player we saw for the Giants, but he’s not tearing teams apart anymore. The offense is looking slightly more predictable, which is probably why the Colts haven’t covered the spread in any of their previous four games.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are really finding their groove under Liam Coen. He hasn’t fixed Trevor Lawrence, but the former first overall pick is doing more right than wrong, which, given that he’s been without Brian Thomas Jr and Travis Hunter for a lot of their recent games, is impressive. The Jags are 4-1 ATS on their home field and have covered the spread in their past three games. This is a team going places quickly, and they should cover, and I believe win, against a Colts team that is tiring down the stretch.

Early Colts vs Jaguars total pick: Over 47.5

We’re taking the Over on the total points line, but this is more of a lean than something I have strong conviction on. The Colts' offense has slowed over recent weeks, but this is still the top-scoring offense in the NFL, putting up an average of 29.8 points per game.

The Jaguars are elevating offensively right now. They rank just outside of the Top 10 in terms of average points scored per game, but over recent weeks, we’re really seeing them produce some explosive moments. They’ve averaged 29.2 points per game over the past five weeks, including putting 29 points on the NFL’s best defense in the Texans, more than any other team has scored against them this season.

Incidentally that was a game they lost, giving up 26 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, in a game which finished 36-29. That sums the Jaguars up: an explosive offense, with a defense that can implode. That’s the perfect recipe for a high-scoring game against this Colts offense, in a genuinely huge game for the outcome of the division
