This Sunday’s crunch divisional game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers is likely going to be decided by how often their teams get the ball in the hands of their star players, Puka Nacua and Christian McCaffrey.
It’s been a return to form for McCaffrey, who struggled with injury, but he’s now back to his best. He only ranks ninth in the NFL’s rushing yard table but also sits seventh in recent yards, with 626 receiving yards, over 150 yards ahead of the next closest running back in that table.
McCaffrey is a volume monster and ranks third in the NFL for targets, with 80 across the Niners’ games this season. In terms of his line for this game it stands at 5.5 receptions, that’s a number he hasn’t hit in his past two games, although he did have enough targets to make that number.
However, his first seven games of the season he managed to cover that line.
The Rams are giving up an average of 4.1 receptions per game to running backs this season. That’s two catches under CMC’s line but given how often the team target him, they should give him enough opportunity to cover this with ease.
