Two teams battling for their place in the College Football Playoff square off in Week 12, when No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit the No. 24 Pitt Panthers.

Both teams enter play at 7-2, and a third loss likely means an end to their CFP hopes. My Notre Dame vs Pittsburgh predictions have this one turning into a hard-hitting rock fight.

Here are my college football picks for November 15.

Notre Dame vs Pittsburgh predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Notre Dame vs Pittsburgh spread pick: Pittsburgh +10.5

I can understand why the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are hefty favorites in this spot. Since dropping back-to-back games to ranked opponents in Miami and Texas A&M, Notre Dame has been perfect.

It just crushed Navy 49-10, extending its winning streak to seven, with every one of its victories coming by double figures. The Irish are scoring 38.7 points per game (10th) and their offense averages 7.3 yards per play, the third-best rate in college football.

Pittsburgh just might be one of the teams not inside college football’s Top 10 that can hang with them.

The Panthers are sixth in scoring in the country, pouring in 39.7 points per game, and they’re powered by a passing game that's racking up 302.9 yards per game.

Since losing back-to-back games to West Virginia and Louisville, they’ve been gangbusters as well, ripping off five straight wins and winning by double figures in all but one of them.

Both schools are stout run defenders, with Pitt leading the nation in yards allowed per rush (2.4), and the Irish in 16th at 3.1.

This will be Pitt’s toughest competition yet, but with plenty on the line in front of a raucous home crowd, I like it to stay in range in what should be one of the best games of the week.

Early Notre Dame vs Pittsburgh total pick: Under 55.5

The defenses will be shutting down the run, but that doesn’t mean both offenses won’t give it a try. After all, ND’s Jeremiyah Love is one of the best backs in the country.

However, those efforts, if not executed properly, could result in longer third downs and obvious passing situations. It’s exactly where both teams thrive, ranking inside college football’s Top 20 in sacks.

Despite the Fighting Irish putting up big scoring numbers, they've gone Under the total in four of their last five contests. The defense has allowed 10 points or less in four of those five games.

Pittsburgh has been involved in a few more shootouts lately, so it's seen the Under cash just twice in its last five games. While there will be scoring, I think it comes close to the total but stays Under.
