For the second straight year, North Carolina opens its season against TCU, and this time not only is it the first FBS football game of the year, but Bill Belichick's Tar Heels take on the Horned Frogs overseas on Aug. 29 at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland (12 p.m. ET, ESPN).
The Horned Frogs are 7.5-point favorites on what's expected to be a rain day on the Emerald Isle, and my North Carolina vs. TCU predictions and college football picks project a repeat performance of last year's matchup.

Early North Carolina vs TCU spread pick: TCU -7.5
Not much went right for North Carolina in Bill Belichick's debut season, and it started ugly with a 34-point home loss to TCU, but the defense did have its moments.
However, with defensive coordinator Steve Belichick on medical leave and the Tar Heels ranking 102nd in returning defensive production (42%), it's hard to be optimistic about the defense this season.
Although TCU is dealing with a QB and offensive coordinator change, there's an argument Jaden Craig and Gordon Sammis are both upgrades for Sonny Dykes.
Craig was one of the most underrated transfer additions in the country and was third in the FCS in big-time throw rate last season at Harvard (8.6%).
Craig isn't short on playmakers to lean on either, with wide receiver Jordan Dwyer and running back Jeremy Payne. And if that trio can put 27+ points on the board, UNC will have a tough time keeping this close.
New Tar Heels starting QB Billy Edwards Jr. hasn't been impressive against Power 4 opponents in his career, with 14 turnover-worthy plays to just 20 total touchdowns. TCU's offense is the reason I would take the Horned Frogs to cover by as much as 9.5 points.

Early North Carolina vs TCU total pick: Under 47.5
This is the fifth straight season in which Aviva Stadium has hosted a Week 0 game, and in the three previous matchups, the game total hit exactly 45 points.
While hitting that same game total again in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic is as likely as splitting the G on your sixth pint of The Black Stuff, points could be hard to come by.
Aviva Stadium is grass, and the forecast calls for plenty of rain leading up to Saturday (with a 60% chance of precipitation during the game), which could impact field conditions. That's on top of this being both TCU's and North Carolina's opening games of the season with new QBs.
Even without its defensive coordinator and several new starters, UNC's defense is home to its best players (Melkart Abou Jaoude, Greg Smith, Isaiah Johnson).
And while TCU did lose a starting safety under odd circumstances, the Horned Frogs still have the talent to stop a mediocre QB like Edwards.
Both teams are ranked Top 40 in defensive SP+ ahead of the season, which is why the Under is the play as long as the game total stays above 46.5.
