NC State vs Wake Forest Same-Game Parlay for College Football Week 3

With the Wolfpack defense a major liability, Douglas Farmer is backing the Deacons to cover the spread at home on Thursday night.

Surrendering 31 points to Virginia was no way for the North Carolina State Wolfpack defense to engender any kind of faith this season.

Giving up anything more than 21 points to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will erase any lingering hope that Dave Doeren’s Wolfpack can return to his usually preferred identity.

My NC State vs. Wake Forest predictions and college football picks expect a shootout on Thursday, September 11.

Our best NC State vs Wake Forest SGP for Week 3

North Carolina State struggled so much to stop Virginia in late-down situations last weekend that Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren effectively advertised his lack of trust in his defense.

Going for a 4th-and-1 deep in his own territory in the final minutes was a clear statement that Doeren did not believe his defense could get a stop when it needed one.

Wake Forest may not have that same success, but replicating any of it should propel this game well past its total, and some late-game chaos should get the Demon Deacons into position to cover this spread.

The only reason Doeren will tolerate any of this is that he knows sophomore quarterback CJ Bailey can produce both through the air and on the ground. Bailey has rushed for three touchdowns already this season, and asking him to do so again may become a common bet in 2025.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
