The Connecticut Huskies will look to continue their undefeated streak in Big East play as they host the 15-4 Villanova Wildcats this afternoon.

While the Huskies have won 14 straight games, my Villanova vs. UConn predictions expect the Wildcats to cover this large spread.

Let’s break down this Big East matchup in my free college basketball picks for Saturday, January 24.

Villanova vs UConn prediction

Villanova vs UConn best bet: Villanova +10.5 (-110)

Depending on how you follow the UConn Huskies, you may have two very different opinions of this team.

Fans will point to the 14-game winning streak and the gaudy record and say this is yet another championship contender. Meanwhile, bettors will note the Huskies have failed to cover in their last five games, even though they’ve won each.

The truth is probably somewhere between those two perspectives. UConn is an elite team, but perhaps not a top natty contender despite its 18-1 record.

KenPom ranks the Huskies 11th in the nation, noting them as a truly elite defensive squad but less than outstanding offensively.

In many ways, Villanova is a similar team. The Wildcats rate out as a more balanced squad but play at one of the slowest paces in the country, and KenPom ranks them No. 26 nationally.

When you take two strong defensive squads that both play relatively slowly, it’s hard to believe we’re in for a blowout. Even if UConn controls the game, the style both schools play suggests a tight matchup that comes down to the final minutes.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
