The Bruins got a wake-up call the last time they faced the Spartans. Since then, UCLA has been rolling and covering spreads along the way. Jason Logan thinks this Big Ten battle will come down to the wire.

The Michigan State Spartans created a monster when they spanked the UCLA Bruins by 23 points in mid-February. Now, MSU comes face-to-face with that beast in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.

Since that embarrassing beatdown in East Lansing, the Bruins have rattled off five wins in their last six outings (5-1 ATS), including a strong showing over Rutgers in their tournament opener.

UCLA topped the Big Ten in net rating during that surge and showed it could run with the best in the conference, knocking off Nebraska and Illinois.

Our UCLA vs. Michigan State predictions give Mick Cronin’s crew its due, and my college basketball picks are taking the points with an underrated Bruins squad.

UCLA vs Michigan State best bet: UCLA +5.5 (-116)

Health concerns and a tough schedule held the UCLA Bruins down for most of the regular season, but Cronin has his program peaking at the perfect time.

UCLA’s defense is aggressive and versatile. The Bruins mix in man and zone, with athletic and long defenders able to close out, help, and recover quickly. The Bruins allow the 21st fewest shots at the rim.

On top of being a great two-way team, UCLA does the little things at win games – or at least cover spreads. The Bruins hit their free throws, take care of the ball, and cash in from 3-point range.

UCLA vs Michigan State same-game parlay

Game models have this matchup tighter than the oddsmakers expect. UCLA is playing its best ball while the Michigan State Spartans could be a little flat after an extended break, having last played on March 8.

Skyy Clark left late into last night’s game with a calf injury. While it wasn’t serious, he’s been slowed by leg issues (hamstring) recently and back-to-back games isn’t helping him get healthy.

Coen Carr dropped 16 on UCLA in that first meeting. He’s forecasted for as many as 13 points with Cronin focusing on taking the ball away from MSU point god Jeremy Fears Jr.

Considering how good UCLA is playing, the Spartans’ extended hiatus, and how well these teams matchup, this quarterfinal clash will turn into a low-scoring rock fight with the Bruins pulling off the upset.
