Mid-Major College Basketball Betting Tips for February 5-7

Marcus Shaver is part of a strong Boise State backcourt that has helped the Broncos get out to a 14-2 record while scoring a Mountain West Conference-best 79.9 points per game.

Powerhouse programs like Michigan and Villanova might be near the top of the NCAA rankings but some of the best college basketball betting value is found in the smaller conferences, where schools like Drake can fly under the radar of public bettors.

So if you want to make big profits off small schools look no further than our mid-major betting tips for college basketball odds on games running between February 5-7.

ATS Team to Watch: Drake Bulldogs (17-0 SU, 14-1 ATS)

Upcoming: Valparaiso Crusaders - Saturday, February 6 at 3 p.m. ET, and Sunday, February 7 at 3 p.m. ET.

If you haven't been paying much attention to Drake, it's about time you did. The Bulldogs just cracked the AP Top 25 this week and are a perfect 17-0 SU. More importantly for bettors, they are 14-1 ATS and last week's game against Illinois State was the first time this season they have failed to cover the spread.

While they surprisingly got pushed into overtime in that contest, they followed up that close victory with a 95-60 blowout win against the same Illinois State team just one day later. It's also worth noting that Drake went just 4-30 from long range in that first game against the Redbirds, an uncharacteristic display from a Bulldogs squad that shoots a sizzling 38.7 percent from deep on the season.

The Bulldogs have dominated on both ends of the court, averaging 81.5 points per game on 50.4 percent shooting, while holding opponents to 62 ppg on 40 percent shooting.

Next up for Drake is a back-to-back set against the Valparaiso Crusaders, who are just 4-8 SU and 3-11 ATS in their last 12 games. The Crusaders rank outside the Top-300 in scoring offense while sitting outside the Top-200 in scoring defense.

Team to Beware of: Boise State Broncos (14-2 SU, 10-4-1 ATS)

Upcoming: Nevada Wolf Pack - Friday, February 5 at 9 p.m. ET, and Sunday, February 7 at 4 p.m. ET.

Another mid-major darling this season has been Boise State, which has rolled to the top of the Mountain West Conference with a 14-2 record and a 10-4-1 mark ATS. The Broncos are coming off their toughest test of the season, a two-game set on the road that they split against Colorado State

Boise State bettors would do well not to overlook the Broncos' opponent this weekend, either, as the team heads to Reno to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday and Sunday. The Wolf Pack are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games and are 5-1 SU in their previous six at home.

While Boise State's backcourt duo of Derrick Alston Jr. and Marcus Shaver are usually the best guards in any given game, Nevada also boasts a terrific pair of guards in Grant Sherfield (18.3 points and 5.7 assists per game) and Desmond Cambridge Jr. (14.9 ppg).

The Broncos lead the MWC in scoring at 79.9 ppg while holding opponents to 63.1 ppg (the third-best mark in the conference), but they play significantly worse defense on the road. Boise State holds opponents to 57.2 ppg at home, but that number jumps to 68.7 ppg away from ExtraMile Arena. The last time the Wolf Pack hosted Boise State, in February 2020, they came away with an 83-66 victory.

Over/Under Team: UMass Lowell River Hawks (6-8 SU, 2-12 O/U)

Upcoming: New Hampshire Wildcats - Friday, February 5 at 3 p.m. ET, and Saturday, February 6 at 1 p.m. ET.

Unlike the two previously highlighted teams, Massachusetts Lowell doesn't stand a chance of making the NCAA tournament. So make sure to take advantage of the River Hawks' pathetic offense before their season wraps up in 10 days.

UMass Lowell has been an incredible Under bet this season, going 11-1 to the Under in its last 12 games. The River Hawks are averaging just 68.4 ppg and will travel to Durham to face the New Hampshire Wildcats in consecutive games on Friday and Saturday.

The Wildcats have been even worse offensively, scoring just 66.8 ppg on 39.5 percent shooting. They are very stingy on the defensive end of the court, however, limiting foes to 66 ppg.

Both schools also play at a slow pace and combined for just 117 points in their previous meeting last March. The Under looks like it will be another good bet this weekend, especially in the tail end of the back-to-back on Saturday.
