Warriors vs Rockets Picks: Can Warriors Find Their Rhythm?

Kevin Porter Jr. dropped a 50-piece on the Bucks his last time out, and could be in line for another big night against a Warriors squad whose defensive effort has been fleeting.

The Houston Rockets host the Golden State Warriors at the Toyota Center on Saturday, May 1, with tipoff at 7:30 p.m. ET. This doesn’t quite have the same juice as the playoff meetings between these teams in the last decade, but it should still be extremely fun to watch.

Will there be a re-run of the Kevin Porter Jr. show tonight? Find out in our Warriors vs. Rockets picks and predictions.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

On Thursday, Kevin Porter Jr. became the fourth-youngest player in NBA history to score 50 points in a game. He poured in 50 in a massive upset over the Bucks, while also finishing the game with 11 assists. Houston was a 14.5-point underdog in that contest, but Porter Jr. willed the team to a victory. Now, he’ll look to find a way to shine in a game with Steph Curry on the floor.

Curry is going to get his for Golden State, but this group has been struggling as of late. The Warriors are just 21st in the league in offensive rating over the last five games, and they have lost four of those contests. The reality is that nobody on this Warriors team can consistently score, and they definitely can’t do it efficiently. Sure, Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr. occasionally show up, but the two of them are erratic more often than not.

The Warriors also haven’t played very well defensively, as they are in the bottom half of the league in defensive rating over the last five games. That’s not very inspiring heading into a meeting with Porter Jr. and Christian Wood. Wood didn’t quite score 50 last game, but he did have 31 points and nine rebounds. He should be able to punish this Warriors team tonight.

PREDICTION: Rockets +8 (-110)

Over/Under pick

The Rockets are coming off of a game in which 279 total points were scored, and they likely will find themselves in another high-scoring one against the Warriors. Neither of these teams is playing all that well defensively at the moment, and Houston has more firepower than given credit for. Golden State is going to have to score a bunch in order to win this game, making the Over the smarter play.

PREDICTION: Over 233.0 (-110)

Player prop pick

Curry has hit at least six threes in seven of his last 11 games, and he now faces a Rockets team that doesn’t play a lick of defense. This game is going to be up and down, giving Curry plenty of opportunities to let shots fly. He was 6 for 17 from the outside in Thursday’s loss to the Timberwolves, showing that he can still hit a ridiculous mark like this on an off night.

PREDICTION: Steph Curry Over 5.5 Made Threes (-136)

Warriors vs Rockets betting card

  • Rockets +8 (-110)
  • Over 233.0 (-110)
  • Steph Curry Over 5.5 Made Threes (-136)
