The biggest storyline heading into this matchup was set on fire with the news of Kevin Durant missing his return to Arizona as a member of the Houston Rockets.

However, there are still plenty of reasons to bet on this game, with both Houston and the Phoenix Suns on hot streaks.

My Rockets vs. Suns predictions and free NBA picks call for Phoenix to cover with Durant absent.

Rockets vs Suns prediction

Rockets vs Suns best bet: Suns +6.5 (-110)

The Houston Rockets have won five of six to get to 10-4 on the season, but the Phoenix Suns are not that far behind them at 11-6.

Phoenix is riding a three-game winning streak, and, unlike many NBA hot streaks, it’s not fueled by playing the teams at the bottom of the standings.

The Suns have beaten Minnesota and San Antonio, who both have winning records, as well as Portland, which is currently in position to make the Play-In.

PHX is currently in the Top 10 in both offensive and defensive rating, something Houston can’t boast, despite being the top offense in the NBA. The Rockets are ranked just 13th in defensive rating.

Durant isn’t the only member of the blockbuster trade who will miss the rematch with his old team. Jalen Green, sent from Houston to Phoenix, is out with a hamstring injury.

Dillon Brooks will play, though. The fiery wing was also sent to Phoenix as part of the deal and will certainly be ready to face his old team. He’s second on the Suns in scoring at 21.4 points per game.

It makes sense the Rockets are favored, but on the road without Durant, 6.5 points seems like way too many to be giving up.

Rockets vs Suns same-game parlay

The Rockets and Suns may play at a slow pace, but this line is way too low. Phoenix hasn't had a total this low in its last eight, and there's more than enough firepower left to eclipse this number.

The hot-headed eighth-year veteran lives for these kinds of games. He’s the lone representative of the Durant trade playing against his old team, and he will come out firing. If there were a line on trash talk, I’d take that Over as well.

Rockets vs Suns SGP

  • Suns +6.5
  • Over 224.5
  • Dillon Brooks Over 19.5 points

Our "from downtown" SGP: Can I get an Amen

With Durant out, Alperin Sengun becomes the focus of the Phoenix defense. That should give Amen Thompson a little more space to maneuver. His point and rebound totals are both inflated for this game, since someone will benefit from Durant’s production.

With 26 boards in the last three games, he seems more likely to hit the rebounding total.

Rockets vs Suns SGP

  • Suns +6.5
  • Over 224.5
  • Dillon Brooks Over 19.5 points
  • Amen Thompson Over 7.5 rebounds
