The Lakers come east for the start of a five-game road trip when L.A. plays at Atlanta. The Lakers have won five straight games and sit at 7-2. The Hawks have alternated wins and losses over the last four games and are 4-5.
The star power is reduced for this matchup. LeBron James (sciatica) didn’t make the trip, and breakout shooting guard star Austin Reaves will miss his third straight game with a groin strain. Atlanta’s Trae Young is out until at least Thanksgiving with an MCL sprain.
Luka Doncic will be there for the Lakers, though. That’s why my Lakers vs. Hawks predictions and free NBA picks is that Los Angeles keeps rolling against the Hawks.

Lakers vs Hawks best bet: Lakers -3.5 (-115)
The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t just won five straight—they’ve beaten some pretty good teams along the way. Los Angeles won at Memphis (who are sitting at 4-6), but the Lakers’ other four victims on the winning streak all currently have winning records. Minnesota, Miami, Portland and San Antonio have a combined 21-13, .618 record, and that includes their four losses to L.A.
The Lakers are also 7-2 against the spread, including covers in all five wins on their hot stretch.
The Atlanta Hawks have a worse record against a lower level of competition. In fact, the Hawks are 0-5 against teams currently over .500, and their four wins have come against foes with a combined 10-25, .286 record.
Los Angeles hasn’t had LeBron James all season thus far, so they’ve been doing just fine without him. Though, the Austin Reaves loss will hurt a little more. The 27-year-old is averaging 31.1 points, 9.3 assists and leads the league in getting to the free throw line. The Lakers have won the last two with him on the shelf, however.
Atlanta has changed its offense in the four games since Trae Young went down. The Hawks are taking almost three and a half fewer threes per game and relying on an inside attack, getting to the free throw line.
The Hawks’ offense could get scrambled further, however. Luke Kennard, the team’s top remaining three-point shooting threat, missed Friday’s game with an illness.
Jalen Johnson, the team’s top two-point shooter, went down late in the fourth quarter Friday with what looked like an ankle sprain. It remains to be seen whether the pair will be available or limited against the Lakers.
The Lakers will have the best player on the floor in Luka Doncic, who is averaging 40 points, 11 boards and 9.2 assists. Plus, his defense earned praise from coach JJ Redick.
My pick is for the Lakers to continue their winning streak against a Hawks team struggling to overcome the injury bug.

Lakers vs Hawks same-game parlay
The second and third legs of this parlay almost seem like traps. But we’ll trust that they’re not too good to be true. The Lakers have gone over in their last three games and in eight of the nine games they’ve played this season.
The Hawks have actually hiked their scoring since Young went down, adding nearly two points per game to their scoring average by moving away from the perimeter and getting it inside.
Jake LaRavia has been a surprise for the Lakers this season and jumped into the starting lineup when Reaves went down. His scoring fell a bit when he did, but he’s still rebounding & he has not had fewer than five boards in any of the last seven games.

Our "from downtown" SGP: Doncic does it all
Doncic has only been below 11 rebounds in one game this season, and it was in the last game against San Antonio and Victor Wembanyama. Atlanta doesn’t have any 7-foot-4 unicorns on its roster, and Doncic seems like a pretty stable double-figure rebounder against mere mortals.
But if, for some reason, you don’t trust Doncic to hit the double, DeAndre Ayton has the same odds at over 9.5 boards. He’s had 10 in the last two games and three of the last four—all except for a back-spasm shortened 17-minute night against Memphis.
