Tyrese Haliburton Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Pacers vs Thunder Game 5

The Thunder defense has made life difficult for Tyrese Haliburton in these Finals, and our NBA prop picks expect more of the same in Game 5.

Tyrese Haliburton had a rather ho-hum Game 4.

Scoring 18 points while handing out seven assists is far from bad, but grabbing only two rebounds and turning the ball over five times did not help the Indiana Pacers secure a stranglehold on the NBA Finals. Instead, the Oklahoma City Thunder tied up this series before heading home.

My NBA picks and Tyrese Haliburton picks expect at least one of those bad habits to continue. Game 5’s tip comes at 8:30 ET on Monday, June 16.

Tyrese Haliburton best bet

Tyrese Haliburton Over 2.5 turnovers (-155 at bet365)

This is not glamorous. No one has ever sat at a bar and bragged about cashing a turnover prop in a basketball game, but why not be the first?

It's hardly meant as a criticism of Tyrese Haliburton to point out that he's turned the ball over at least three times in every game of these Finals and at least four times in each of the last three games. Those missteps are simply the reality when facing this Oklahoma City Thunder defense.

Indiana’s options are to either accept those turnovers or take the ball out of Haliburton’s hands. And we all know the Pacers are not going to take the ball out of Haliburton’s hands. That would end this series.

Typically, Haliburton is able to drive and find an open shooter, but against the Thunder, those drives are met by a fleet of swiping hands. Cue turnovers.

The Indiana Pacers would prefer Haliburton not turn the ball over at all, but a few turnovers per game will not be the reason the Pacers fall short in the Finals. They are the cost of doing business against the Thunder, and leaning on Haliburton has gotten Indiana this far.

Tyrese Haliburton same-game parlay

Tyrese Haliburton Over 2.5 turnovers

Tyrese Haliburton Over 17.5 points

Tyrese Haliburton Over 2.5 threes

Haliburton typically responds to lackluster games with solid ones. He strung together back-to-back disappointments in the second round against Cleveland, and then scored 31 points to clinch the series. After a wretched 8-point showing in Game 5 against the Knicks, Haliburton scored 21 with 13 assists to clinch that series.

He cannot clinch the series tonight, but Haliburton should still be a bit more ball-dominant than his usual high level of ball dominance.

Mostly, he should keep shooting from deep. Haliburton’s shot is not the most efficient, both literally and figuratively, but if Indiana is going to spring an upset on the road, it will likely come via someone like Haliburton getting hot from deep. His 4-for-8 showing from beyond the arc in Game 3 spurred that upset, scoring 22 points on 17 shots without taking any free throws.

Obviously, this SGP would have cashed then. It came half a point short of checking that box in Game 2, as well.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
