The Utah Jazz are well-positioned for the future, and they face a team built to win now in the Los Angeles Clippers tonight.

LA is as talented and deep as anyone in the gauntlet that is the Western Conference, and opens as 10-point road favorites.

Our Clippers vs. Jazz predictions and NBA picks target the Under, as Los Angeles will impose its defensive will on the young Jazz on Wednesday, October 22.

Clippers vs Jazz prediction

Clippers vs Jazz best bet: Under 226.5 (-110)

Mercifully for the Los Angeles Clippers, perhaps they can get down to just basketball.

With Kawhi Leonard making headlines in a potential salary cap-circumvention scandal, hoops have been anything but the conversation for this franchise, but that looming investigation has overshadowed a stellar roster-building offseason.

Bradley Beal, John Collins, Brook Lopez, and Chris Paul are now Clippers, adding to the star-studded core of Leonard and James Harden. The supporting cast already includes Ivica Zubac, Derrick Jones, Nic Batum, Kris Dunn, and Bogdan Bogdanovic, and ripped off 50 wins in the West a year ago.

On the other end of the spectrum are the Utah Jazz, who won just 17 games a year ago. That landed them the fifth pick, and they chose guard Ace Bailey.

They'll slot him alongside All-Star Lauri Markkanen, and he’ll add to a group of promising youngsters.

Utah added some adults in the room, with Kevin Love, Jusuf Nurkic, and Georges Niang to offer some stability, but make no mistake: the Jazz are well into the rebuild.

Normally, this would be a Clippers blowout spot, but L.A. has only won its season opener by double digits once in the last five years.

Instead, we’ll ride a Clippers defense that ranked fourth in points allowed last year to keep this one Under the total.

Clippers vs Jazz same-game parlay

Big man Ivica Zubac was fourth in the NBA in rebounding a year ago, and he cleaned glass against Utah, posting at least 11 rebounds in three of the four matchups last season.

Ageless wonder Chris Paul is back in L.A., and the 40-year-old will serve as a backup to Harden. Normally, a 4.5 assist line would be nothing for Paul, but there are plenty of shot creators ahead of him on the roster.

Paul will still be an effective backup, but I think his LA stint starts slowly.
