In three games without Maxey, Philly’s offense has gotten progressively worse. In fact, in a loss to the Pelicans on Friday, they posted a worse offensive rating than in the previous game for a fifth straight time.
The New York Knicks have struggled to defend over the last few weeks, so running into what could be the worst offense in the NBA will certainly be something they’re excited about. They’ve also been trending in the right direction on that end with a strong 110.6 defensive rating in the last five games, and they’re much stronger on offense since Jalen Brunson returned from injury.
Philly is already 9-12 against the spread as an underdog this season and has covered just once in the last seven games. It’s been especially poor at defending the rim over the last three weeks at just 25th in the NBA and ranks 16th against the three, which is of particular concern against a Knicks offense that is so often driven by the outside shot.
The Knicks have only been vulnerable against bad teams that can heat up from deep, and the Sixers are not one of those teams, at least not over the last month of play and certainly not without Maxey in the lineup.
I like the Knicks to cover here in what should be a one-sided affair.
