The Minnesota Twins head to Chavez Ravine for a three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers beginning Monday night.

L.A. could use a win in the worst way after dropping 10 of its last 12 games. See why my Twins vs. Dodgers predictions are bullish on Will Smith’s total bases prop with my MLB picks for Monday, July 21.

Twins vs Dodgers prediction

My Twins vs Dodgers best bet: Will Smith Over 1.5 total bases (+125 at Caesars)

David Festa takes the mound for the Minnesota Twins in Game 1 of the series. The 6-foot-6 hurler sports an underwhelming 5.25 ERA overall and has been especially beatable on the road (6.63 ERA).

The former Seton Hall product has notable reverse splits, surrendering a .266/.333/.447 slash line to right-handed hitters. The righties on the Los Angeles Dodgers stand to benefit, especially Will Smith

The All-Star catcher hits same-handed pitching quite well (165 wRC+) and loves playing in the comfortable confines of his home ballpark (200 wRC+).

Festa’s two favorite pitches against right-handed batters are his slider and four-seamer, which he throws a combined 62.2% of the time. Both have yielded poor results: the slider has a .336 xBA and .672 xSLG, while the four-seamer isn’t much better with a .296 xBA and .565 xSLG.

Smith has a wRC+ above 180 for both pitch types, and he mashes changeups, Festa’s tertiary offering, better than any pitch (293 wRC+).

The 30-year-old is in fine form (1.019 OPS in July) and is averaging 1.9 total bases in his last 10 games, so I’m buying the plus money on him recording 2+ total bases.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Twins vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Will Smith Over 1.5 total bases

Dodgers -1.5

Shohei Ohtani 4+ strikeouts

The Dodgers have a pretty good pitching situation on Monday with Shohei Ohtani (1.00 ERA) working as the opener and then Dustin May coming on in relief. This should allow them to get back on track against a Minnesota team that has been awful on the road (20-31 record).

Ohtani threw a season-high 36 pitches in his last outing and has a robust 30.3% strikeout rate, so he’ll likely mow down a Twins lineup with a 93 wRC+ and 24.3% strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers in July.
