Tigers vs Red Sox Prediction, Picks & Odds — Saturday, September 27

Red Sox SP Connelly Early will sparkle as the bullpen fades. We're hitting the Under thanks in part to Early's exploits, but the Tigers will likely come away with the win.

The Detroit Tigers have played in a lot of low-scoring games as they’ve limped their way to the finish line.

My Tigers vs. Red Sox predictions expect more of the same this afternoon, albeit in a winning effort this time around.

Let’s break it down with my MLB picks on Saturday, September 27.

Tigers vs Red Sox prediction

Tigers vs Red Sox best bet: Under 8.5 (+100)

The Boston Red Sox will be sending Connelly Early to the bump, and he's made quite an impression since joining the rotation.

He has started three games, each coming against teams that rank inside the Top 15 in runs per game (Athletics x2, Rays).

Early allowed just three runs over those three contests, and that’s no coincidence. He held opponents to a .236 average, and 12 of the 13 hits he conceded went for only one base. He’s given up nothing in terms of power, making him difficult to score against.

His 2.34 FIP closely aligns with the 1.88 ERA he’s managed, indicating this isn’t a case of smoke and mirrors. He is pitching legitimately well.

The Detroit Tigers rank 22nd in wOBA, 22nd in SLG in September, and have posted the fifth-highest strikeout rate for the month. Early is capable of limiting them in his current form.

On the flip side, the Red Sox are unlikely to pile up the runs. They have clinched a playoff spot and can’t move up or down regardless of what happens over their final two games.

It is possible – if not likely – that some key players will be rested, which will make it tougher to score.

Tigers vs Red Sox same-game parlay (SGP)

This game carries massive implications for the Tigers. They desperately need to win and will leave no stone unturned in trying to get one.

While motivation doesn’t determine results, the Tigers have a built-in advantage in that they’ll use anyone and everyone necessary to win, while the Red Sox may rest starters, preserve key relievers, and have no reason to push the envelope in any regard.

With Early getting the nod for Boston, more offense is likely to come later in the game.
