The Atlanta Braves host the Boston Red Sox in MLB action this afternoon.

Boston took the first game in this three-game set last night, but my Red Sox vs. Braves predictions bet on the home side to come out strong today.

Here are my free MLB picks for this interleague clash on May 31.

Red Sox vs Braves prediction

My Red Sox vs Braves best bet: Braves first five innings moneyline (-130 at bet365)

The Atlanta Braves lost 5-1 yesterday, but it was a tough situational spot for them after traveling home following a double-header on Thursday.

That snapped a five-game losing streak for the Boston Red Sox, who are three games below .500 and at a crossroads in the season. Do they try to improve their roster for a playoff run or transition to a rebuild around prospects like Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, and Roman Anthony?

The BoSox have a strong lineup, but they tend to hit slightly worse on the road, and they lost one of their top hitters — Alex Bregman — to a quad injury last weekend.

On the other hand, Atlanta's offense got a major boost with the return of 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. last week. Acuna, Austin Riley, Marcell Ozuna, and Matt Olson give Atlanta a slew of heavy hitters at the top of the lineup.

Those guys didn't do much last night (just one hit in the final four innings), but expect them to look better today against Boston starter Walker Buehler who has a 3.95 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP.

The Braves respond with Spencer Schwellenbach, who has a 3.42 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP through 11 starts. With a slightly better starter and an offense trending in the right direction before yesterday, back the Braves to have the lead after five innings.

Red Sox vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)

Braves F5 moneyline

Austin Riley 2+ total bases

Rafael Devers 2+ H+R+RBI

Riley leads Atlanta with 100 total bases in 56 games. He's in the Top 10th percentile in hard-hit rate, average exit velocity, and barrel rate, and his expected slugging percentage (.494) indicates positive regression on the horizon.

Riley has gone 6-for-15 in his career against Buehler, and most of those ABs came against the pre-Tommy John surgery version of Buehler, who was making All-Star teams.

Rafael Devers is batting .291 and leads the majors in RBI with 52 while plating 36 runs through 59 games. The three-time All-Star has been red-hot this month, slashing .365/.479/.635.

Devers will have the platoon advantage against Schwellenbach and has gone 2-for-5 with a pair of homers in his career against Atlanta's young starter.
