Joe Boyle has always generated strikeouts at a high clip and, upon getting back to MLB, this year is no different.
My Rays vs. Giants predictions expect that to continue against an underwhelming San Francisco offense. Let’s take a closer look at my August 15 MLB picks.
Rays vs Giants prediction
Rays vs Giants best bet: Joe Boyle Over 4.5 strikeouts (-120)
Joe Boyle has struck out batters at a very efficient rate this season. He has piled up 31 Ks through 30.2 innings of work and shown the ability to miss bats even when he doesn’t have his best stuff.
In two of his last three appearances, for example, he recorded at least five strikeouts despite pitching only 3.1 innings.
While he recorded just two strikeouts over five innings of work on August 3, that came against a powerhouse Dodgers team that ranks second in OBP and homers. The San Francisco Giants…do not.
San Francisco is one of the worst offensive teams in the majors. They sit tied for 24th in runs per game, 26th in average, 28th in SLG, and 29th in stolen bases.
The Giants struggle to hit for power, they struggle to get on base, and they don’t put much stress on opposing pitchers when actually generating some traffic.
They have the 12th highest strikeout rate at home since July 1 and their K rate in San Francisco this month is nearly 24%.
Rays vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)
Brandon Lowe is one of the hottest hitters in the majors. He has averaged 2.7 bases over his last 10 games and recorded multiple in seven of his past eight games.
He’s in a great spot to build on those numbers against Landon Roupp, owning ISOs of .400, .269, and .275 against his three most-used pitches.
Going the other way, Rafael Devers owns a team-leading .234 ISO against righties on the season. Boyle has also struggled against lefties, allowing a lot more balls in the air and a much higher hard hit rate.
