That’s not ideal heading into a matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays. They lead the league with a .260 average, and their BA — and xBA — has actually risen against righties the last 30 days.

Eight of their nine projected starters have posted a .295 OBP or worse against fastballs and changeups, and seven have struck out at least 25% of the time.
The Braves were only forced to use one reliever in Monday’s game, leaving the bullpen in great shape. That should lead to a shorter leash for Smith-Shawver, giving the Rays less opportunity to get to him.

Junior Caminero is one of the league’s most powerful hitters against right-handed pitching. He sports a .260 ISO and 51.1% hard-hit rate on the year, with 30 of his 38 homers coming vs. righties.
He's taken Smith-Shawver deep previously despite only two head-to-head at-bats, and it’s easy to see why.
Smith-Shawver has no easy way to attack Caminero. He throws four pitches at least 12% of the time, and Caminero owns an ISO of .245 or higher against each of them.
