Let's kick off my MLB picks with a bang!
Francisco Lindor is the perfect leadoff man for the New York Mets — with Juan Soto and Pete Alonso hitting behind him — and his impressive form has guided his team to the top of the NL East.
He’s certainly no afterthought in this lineup. Lindor has matched Soto’s tally of eight homers, and he added another lead-off dinger in yesterday’s win over the Chicago Cubs.
I’m grabbing these plus odds for Over 1.5 bases in today’s rematch, particularly with Lindor’s elite production at Citi Field this year. He’s posted a .412 batting average at his home ballclub, with a stunning 1.212 OPS,
It’s set to be a bullpen game for the Cubs here, but Lindor brings a solid 5-for-17 career average against Chicago’s named starter Brad Keller.
Dustin May Over 2.5 earned runs (-115 at bet365)
Dustin May was a nice story for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, but the narrative has shifted a little this year, with a 4.36 ERA through six outings.
The numbers from his past three starts have been especially shaky, with 14 earned runs allowed, including giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings of work against the Atlanta Braves last weekend. Now May faces a potent Arizona offense that averages 5.18 runs per game and sits inside the Top 10 in home runs and OPS.
The D-Backs scored 11 runs on 11 hits yet still lost to L.A. last night, and there’s great depth in their lineup with Alek Thomas and Geraldo Perdomo — both within touching distance of a .300 average — hitting at No. 8 and No. 9 respectively yesterday.
The Dodgers’ reliable run support should give May a longer leash on the mound, leaving him out longer to get dinged up.
Garrett Crochet Over 6.5 strikeouts (+125 at bet365)
Kansas City has the longest active win streak in the majors, but I’m picking Garrett Crochet to mow down their offense tonight, with juicy plus odds on Over 6.5 strikeouts.
Crochet has settled well in his first season with the Boston Red Sox, racking up 56 Ks already this year — tied for sixth most in the big leagues — with a 2.02 ERA. That includes a clinical 11-punchout effort against the Chicago White Sox last month.
There’s a consistent floor to get behind here, too, with Crochet recording six or more strikeouts in his past five starts and 94+ pitches in six of his last seven. Even if he’s still smoothing out his mechanics, by his own admission, that formula will keep this Over in play.
Though the Royals aren’t a high strikeout team, they’ll still be vulnerable to Crochet’s mix of four-seamer, cutter, and sinker.
