The New York Mets and Minnesota Twins meet this afternoon for the rubber game of their three-game series at Target Field.

New York first-baseman Pete Alonso has been on a tear, and my Mets vs. Twins predictions expect the All-Star’s hot stick to continue thumping today.

Read on for my MLB picks for Wednesday, April 16.

Mets vs Twins prediction

My Mets vs Twins best bet: Pete Alonso 2+ total bases (+115 at DraftKings)

Minnesota Twins starter David Festa got the call-up for injured Pablo Lopez and twirled a three-hit gem across 4 2/3 frames against a good-hitting Detroit lineup.

Festa spent the spring working on his command, and righties torched him and his mediocre heater for 12 hits across five frames.

Meanwhile, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is riding one of his trademark hot streaks at the dish.

The 30-year-old slugger is batting .356 with five bombs and 20 RBI in 59 at-bats, specifically .340 with 17 hits, five doubles, and five bombs against right-handed pitching.

Today’s matchup with Festa is a good one for Alonso to exploit, but the young righty has a short leash.

The Twins bullpen boasts a 3.28 SIERA and 3.86 xFIP. That Minnesota relief corps is hittable, and Alonso has a good opportunity to reach two or more total bases today. Plus money is the icing on the cake.

Mets vs Twins same-game parlay (SGP)

Pete Alonso 2+ total bases

David Festa Under 5.5 strikeouts

Mets moneyline

It’s going to be a chilly day at Target Field.

I like Alonso to get his cracks, but this Mets offense boasts a high walk rate and low strikeout rate against right-handed arms.

Festa has a short leash, and even on a chilly day, his stuff isn’t overpowering, which further benefits New York.

New York will likely turn today’s contest into a bullpen game, and the Mets ‘pen has pitched very well, leading the majors in several advanced metrics. The Twins offense has been inconsistent for much of this season.

The Mets have won four of the last six vs. the Twins, and I have them winning today’s contest behind Alonso’s bat and outstanding bullpen.
