The Arizona Diamondbacks have alternated between wins and losses in seven straight games after Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Padres. They’re hoping converted reliever Ryne Nelson can deliver a win in the series opener.
Nelson is 5-2 with a 3.39 ERA in nine starts this season. He’s allowed one earned run or less in six of his last eight starts.
He should be helped along as the D-Backs boast the fourth-highest scoring offense in baseball, putting up 5.09 runs per game.
Los Angeles Angels SP Tyler Anderson will have to deal with those bats. He’s coming off a 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing eight hits and three earned runs over five innings.
He’s surrendered three or more runs in five of his last seven outings and is 2-6 with a 4.19 ERA.
But Anderson is far from the only pitcher struggling: the Angels have dropped five of their last seven, and the team owns the fifth-worst ERA in baseball (4.66).
