The Milwaukee Brewers will try to build on their recent strong play as they host the floundering New York Mets at American Family Field tonight.

With New York mired in offensive struggles and facing a stingy Brandon Woodruff, my Mets vs. Brewers predictions are taking Milwaukee to win.

Read on for a full analysis of the first game of this series in my free MLB picks for Friday, August 8.

Mets vs Brewers prediction

Mets vs Brewers best bet: Brewers moneyline (-140 at BetMGM)

The New York Mets have lost eight of nine, and even their normal success at Citi Field eluded them in a recent six-game homestand. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers have now won nine of 10. On form alone, picking Milwaukee to win at American Family Field seems like a smart call.

But the pitching matchup also has me concerned for New York’s chances.

Brandon Woodruff looks to be in prime form since returning from the shoulder surgery. In five starts, he’s 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA and a 0.635 WHIP – not sustainable numbers, but ones that show Woodruff hasn’t lost a step.

Normally, we’d be on tap for a great pitching matchup tonight, as the Mets are deploying ace Kodai Senga. But while Senga’s overall numbers are outstanding, he has struggled since returning from a hamstring injury. In his last three starts, Senga has an 8.25 ERA, allowing four homers and surrendering 11 walks in 12 innings of work.

The Mets are averaging 3.22 runs per game over the last nine, and will struggle to improve against Woodruff and the Milwaukee bullpen.

Mets vs Brewers same-game parlay (SGP)

Brewers moneyline

Brandon Woodruff Over 6.5 strikeouts

Andrew Vaughn Over 0.5 RBI

I like the Brewers to win tonight behind Woodruff, so I’m including the starter to hit the Over on his strikeout total, as he is averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings since returning this season.

I’ll also take Andrew Vaughn to pick up at least one RBI tonight, as he has knocked in four runs over his last two games.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
