There’s afternoon baseball to kickstart the weekend with the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs beginning a three-game set at Wrigley Field on Friday, June 20.

The Windy City is forecasted to live up to its name this afternoon, and my Mariners vs. Cubs predictions and MLB picks expect the North Siders to fly the W in a high-scoring game.

Mariners vs Cubs prediction

My Mariners vs Cubs best bet: Cubs moneyline (-125 at BetMGM)

Chicago Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd has been solid this season with a 2.79 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, and he is facing a potentially overachieving Seattle Mariners lineup on Friday.

Seattle sports a likely unsustainable .307 BABIP against southpaws and an even higher .311 mark on the highway, and the Mariners have the sixth-highest strikeout percentage against lefties (25.7%), too.

I also value Boyd pitching at least five full frames in 13 of his 14 starts, and his strikeouts numbers have been higher at Wrigley Field with 8.8 K/9 and a 25.7 K% compared to respective 7.66  and 19.9% marks on the road.

Seattle starter George Kirby has been excellent across his past three outings with a tidy 3.18 ERA and 2.46 xFIP, but he’s facing his first true test since allowing 11 earned runs across just 8 2/3 innings to start the year.

Chicago sends a solid lineup to the dish with a sixth-ranked wOBA and ISO against right-handed hurlers, too. Of course, the Cubs are 24-13 at home and have also won 43 of their last 68 games (+12.65 Units / 12% ROI).

Mariners vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Cubs moneyline

Over 9.5

Julio Rodriguez Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

The wind is forecasted to be blowing out briskly at Wrigley Field today, and that’s good news for the bats in both lineups because these teams have trended to the Under of late. I also expect the North Siders to do some heavy lifting given their fourth-ranked wOBA with the second-most runs per game.

Turning to the final leg of this same-game parlay, Julio Rodriguez is ripe for a bounce-back afternoon at the dish. While he’s reeling along a 1-for-14 skid across his past four games, Rodriguez had hit the Over in this market in seven of the prior eight.

He also sports a solid .344 wOBA, .235 ISO, and .804 OPS against lefties this season while hitting either second or third in the lineup.
