HR picks for August 12
Cal Raleigh (+150 at DraftKings)
Cal Raleigh has a stranglehold on the home run crown and potentially has a shot at MVP after Aaron Judge’s injury kept him out for a short period. The "Big Dumper" is up to 45 round-trippers on the year and just went deep in all three games over the weekend as the Seattle Mariners swept the Tampa Bay Rays.
He also has a favorable matchup tonight against Baltimore Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer. Although Raleigh is only 1-for-8 against Kremer, the SP is having a rough season, allowing 18 long balls in 23 appearances.
Left-handed hitters have taken him deep 11 times, and the switch-hitting catcher is red-hot right now. He’s smacked 23 of his bombs on the road, too.
Brandon Nimmo (+475 at DraftKings)
Brandon Nimmo has gone deep 20+ times in each of the last two seasons and is on the verge of a third. The veteran New York Mets outfielder has 19 long balls in 114 games, and although he hasn’t left the yard since July 23, there’s reason to believe that skid could end tonight.
The Mets face the Atlanta Braves in an important National League East clash, with Spencer Strider taking the bump for Brian Snitker’s club. Nimmo has terrorized Strider over the years, going 9-for-22 with two home runs.
Nimmo has nine of his bombs at home, and Strider - who still doesn't look 100% himself - has given up 12 homers in only 15 outings.
Josh Naylor (+425 at DraftKings)
Josh Naylor is swinging the bat extremely well since coming over from the Arizona Diamondbacks. He already has three round-trippers in August and showed Mariners faithful what they’re working with on Sunday, smacking a home run against the Rays at T-Mobile Park.
He’s also dominated Kremer in the past. Across nine at-bats, Naylor has six hits, one homer, and five RBI. Naylor is flourishing at the dish with a .346 average this month, and he has big power, despite going deep only 15 times.
This change of scenery has unlocked Naylor offensively as of late, and he could keep the power surge going tonight.
