HR picks for August 2

Christian Walker (+425 at DraftKings)

Christian Walker is having a down year when it comes to power compared to previous seasons, smacking just 14 home runs. However, he started off August on the right foot on Friday evening, going deep against the Boston Red Sox

He’ll have another prime opportunity to do so again today as Boston sends Walker Buehler to the hill. He’s struggled this season, posting a 5.72 ERA across 18 starts. He’s allowed 18 bombs. Buehler has given up three homers in his last three outings alone. Walker is just 4-for-15 lifetime against him, but two of those hits have been round-trippers.

Eight of Walker’s long balls have come on the road a,nd 13 of them against right-handed hurlers. Buehler is having a brutal year, and I could see the Houston Astros slugger adding to his misery today.

Salvador Perez (+390 at DraftKings)

After all these years, Salvador Perez is still getting it done on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Kansas City Royals legend is batting .254 with 19 home runs and 65 RBI. He also left the yard on Friday evening in the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, and today’s matchup plays in his favor again.

It’s Max Scherzer on the mound for Toronto, and Perez is 10-for-31 lifetime against him with a pair of bombs. He has 17 long balls against righties and 14 away from Kauffman Stadium. Meanwhile, Scherzer has allowed eight homers in only seven starts in 2025. He's not been at his best.

Perez also has a four-game hitting streak at the moment. It wouldn’t surprise me if he put No. 20 out in this afternoon’s clash.

Cal Raleigh (+265 at DraftKings)

How could we not include the MLB’s home run leader? Cal Raleigh is up to 42 homers and is on pace to potentially reach Aaron Judge’s AL record and perhaps even pass it. The switch-hitting slugger has carried his momentum from the Home Run Derby into the second half, going deep four times post-All-Star break.

Raleigh smacked No. 42 on Thursday against the Texas Rangers, and he’ll face them again tonight, with trade deadline acquisition Merrill Kelly taking the hill. Raleigh is 0-for-6 lifetime against Kelly, but he does allow his fair share of home runs, giving up 14 in 22 starts.

26 of Raleigh’s bombs are off right-handed pitchers, and he’s also done a lot of damage on the road, leaving the yard 23 times. No. 43 could be on its way.
