HR picks for June 2
Rafael Devers (+400 at DraftKings)
While there’s been a lot of drama surrounding Rafael Devers this season, he’s still doing his part offensively. The slugger is hitting .286 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs so far, leading the way for the Boston Red Sox alongside Alex Bregman.
Facing lefties is rarely a strong suit for left-handed hitters, but Devers is hitting .308 against southpaws. While only two of his homers are off lefties, he’s had success against Los Angeles Angels starter Tyler Anderson, who takes the mound in the series opener.
Devers is 3 for 7 lifetime with a bomb. He’s also batting .330 at home compared to .246 on the road, with eight homers at Fenway Park. I could see Devers leaving the yard in this contest.
Kerry Carpenter (+225 at DraftKings)
The Detroit Tigers are rolling this year, and Kerry Carpenter is playing a massive part in their success. The 27-year-old has clubbed 10 home runs and driven in 22 to go along with a .268 average. Carpenter hasn’t gone deep since May 20, and tonight is the perfect opportunity to change that.
The Tigers face Jonathan Cannon of the Chicago White Sox, and Carpenter had a two-homer game against him back on April 4. He’s 4 for 7 lifetime against Cannon, and has smacked eight of his home runs against right-handed hurlers. Carpenter is also batting .282 against righties compared to .200 versus left-handers.
Carpenter’s confidence will be high against Cannon, and it feels like this could be the time he connects on his 11th long ball of the campaign.
Manny Machado (+600 at DraftKings)
The San Diego Padres are also rolling, with Manny Machado having lots of success at the plate. The veteran is hitting .308, and although he’s only smacked seven bombs, tonight’s matchup heavily plays in his favor.
The Padres begin an important NL West series with the San Francisco Giants in the Bay Area, and Logan Webb gets the call for the hosts. Machado has terrorized him over the years, going 13 for 35 (.371) with one home run.
Machado just went deep on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he clubbed three long balls last season against the Giants as well. Machado could stay hot tonight.
