The Cleveland Guardians have dominated this battle at the top of the AL Central, as they seek a four-game sweep over the division-leading Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

Despite their recent success, the books have the Tigers as the -235 moneyline favorites in the MLB odds. That has plenty to do with Detroit ace Tarik Skubal taking the mound today.

Our Guardians vs. Tigers prediction finds the best value in the total for this matchup on May 25.

Guardians vs Tigers prediction

My Guardians vs Tigers best bet: Under 7.5 (-115 at Caesars)

It’s been a total shutdown of the Detroit Tigers’ offense, who have scored a total of six runs across three games, most of them coming in a 7-5 loss in extra innings on Saturday.

Detroit has one of the stronger offenses in baseball, ranking fourth in runs scored per game at 5.15, but they were blanked 7-0 in the opener before losing 3-1 on Friday.

They’re hoping Tarik Skubal can right the ship and salvage something out of this set, as the Cleveland Guardians have moved to within three games of Detroit, tied for second with the Twins.

Skubal is 4-2 on the year with a 2.87 ERA, but he’s been hit unusually hard in his last two outings.

He gave up three earned runs and five hits in a 5-4 win over St. Louis, after getting dinged for five earned on seven hits in a 6-5 win over Boston. Skubal picked up no decisions in both.

It’s been a streaky few weeks for the Guardians, who are riding a four-game win streak after dropping the previous five.

Cleveland’s pitching has been holding up in Motown, despite a team ERA of 3.96 that ranks middle of the pack in baseball.

It helps that their offense has been scoring at a Top 10 rate over the last week, despite the fact their hitting splits still sit in the bottom half of the league.

They turn the ball over to lefty Logan Allen, who is 2-2 on the year with a 3.86 ERA.

Allen has been steady, if not unspectacular of late. He has one win in May and has given up two runs or less in three of four starts.

He lasted just three innings last outing though in an eventual 6-5 loss to the Twins, scattering four hits and allowing two earned runs.

Cleveland has dominated this head-to-head of late, winning five straight and eight of the last 10, but Skubal makes all the difference here.

Because there’s no juice on the moneyline, let’s pivot to Skubal taking care of the Guardians’ bats and keeping this to the Under, where it’s landed in two of the first three games of this series.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Guardians vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 7.5

Tarik Skubal Over 7.5 strikeouts

Andy Ibanez Over 1.5 total bases

Let’s stick with Skubal, who has a gettable 7.5 strikeout line against the Guardians.

We’re going with current success vs. previous evidence here, as Skubal has only had eight strikeouts vs. Cleveland in one of eight career starts.

But he’s been smoking lately, going Over the total in five straight starts and in six of the last seven outings.

Last time out, he fanned eight St. Louis Cardinals, and he has gone for 11+ Ks in three outings during this run.

We’ll wrap with Andy Ibanez, who has had major success against Allen in a super small sample.

The Tigers’ third baseman has three hits in four career at-bats vs. Allen, but two of those have been for home runs.

Perhaps this is the matchup he needs to pick up his first hit of this series.
