Giants vs Tigers prediction

My Giants vs Tigers best bet: Kerry Carpenter Over 1.5 total bases (+133 at Caesars)

The Detroit Tigers welcome the San Francisco Giants for Game 1 of a three-game series played under sunny skies with a strong breeze blowing in from right field.

The Tigers' seven-game homestand hasn’t gotten off to a good start, but Detroit has a great chance today to start a winning streak against Giants righty Hayden Birdsong.

Birdsong opened the season in the Giants' bullpen. He boasts an electric four-seamer with a solid 9.21 strikeouts per nine, but his command comes and goes, and serving up over three walks per nine has gotten the 23-year-old in trouble.

He's particularly struggled against left-handed bats, who are cracking .275/.350/.549 against him, and a lefty bat like Kerry Carpenter could have a big day at the plate.

Carpenter is an aggressive hitter with a keen eye and a .454 xWOBA against right-handed heat. He’ll likely bat first in the Tigers' lineup, and Birdsong won’t blow that heater of his past him today.

Carpenter is in the zone. He’s cleared 2+ total bases in three of his previous five games. He massacres righties, and his underlying metrics suggest his hot bat will continue today with at least two total bases.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Giants vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Kerry Carpenter 2+ total bases

Hayden Birdsong 6+ strikeouts

Mike Yastrzemski 2+ total bases

I plan to bet on each of these legs individually, but they do correlate nicely together, ensuring a nice payday if the bet wins.

Carpenter aside, the Tigers' strikeout rate against righties (23%) has spiked to 26% over their previous seven games. Birdsong has a big heater, and he’s whiffing a batter per inning on average.

Lefty sticks like Mike Yastrzemski are slashing .365/.450/.654 with a 1.104 OPS with three home runs and five extra-base hits across 52 plate appearances against Tigers starter Keider Montero. His .365 BABIP allowed against lefties is hard not to bet against.

Yastrzemski broke a 1-17 slump with a triple yesterday against Washington righty Michael Soroka and has another favorable matchup in store today.
