Giants vs Braves Prediction, Picks & Odds — Wednesday, July 23

Spencer Strider finally looks like himself as he works his way back from a lengthy injury absence. His upward trajectory contrasts with that of Justin Verlander, who is finally showing his age. This pitching mismatch is all the Braves need.

It’s the rubber match of a 3-game set between the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves.

Our Giants vs. Braves predictions think Atlanta owns the pitching matchup and should escape with the win on getaway day.

Read on for my full MLB picks for Wednesday, July 23.

Giants vs Braves prediction

My Giants vs Braves best bet: Braves -1.5 (+125 at BetMGM)

Justin Verlander has had a legit Hall-of-Fame career, so this stint with the San Francisco Giants should be just a speed bump en route to Cooperstown.

That doesn’t help the G-Men, though, as Verlander is 0-8 with a 4.99 ERA. The Giants have lost six straight Verlander starts, with the righty taking five losses. He has a whopping 9.26 ERA in July.

It’s not like he’s had help either. San Francisco is 22nd in scoring, but it's done even worse for Verlander, managing eight total runs over the last six starts, including shutout losses in each of his last two appearances.

Compare that with Atlanta Braves SP Spencer Strider, who, after starting 0-5, has gone 4-2 in his last seven starts, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of those games.

Strider has a crisp 2.89 ERA in July, and the Braves have put up at least seven runs in three of those four wins.

Giants vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)

Braves -1.5

Matt Olson Over 1.5 total bases

Justin Verlander Over 4.5 strikeouts

Despite a 9-0 loss on Tuesday, Braves first baseman Matt Olson stayed hot, picking up three hits. He’s hit Verlander the hardest out of any Braves, with two home runs, a double, and four RBI.

Speaking of Verlander, he’s got a generous 4.5 strikeout line. Despite his struggles, the veteran hurler can still ring up some Ks, picking up at least five punchouts in four of his last six starts.

Atlanta is a Bottom-10 strikeout team, averaging nearly nine per game.
