My Dodgers vs Braves best bet: Dodgers -1.5 (+110 at Caesars)

Los Angeles Dodgers righty Dustin May has pitched well in four of his first starts, with the outlier coming against the Chicago Cubs on April 22.

Considering the Cubbies are the highest-scoring team in MLB, it’s safe to give May a pass and expect him to continue pitching competitively to let the Los Angeles bats do the heavy lifting.

His numbers largely check out otherwise. May sports a 3.95 ERA alongside a 3.81 xFIP, and he’s likely also got positive regression ahead of his 58.3% strand rate.

Returning to the Los Angeles lineup, the Dodgers pace the majors in wOBA and OPS against right-handed arms and have a plus-matchup against Atlanta Braves righty Bryce Elder on Sunday.

Elder is starting out of necessity, because of the 168 starting pitchers with at least 70 innings over the past two years, his 6.10 ERA and .293 batting average allowed to opposing hitters both rank 163rd.

I expect the Dodgers to do what the Dodgers do on Sunday Night Baseball, and that’s put crooked numbers on the scoreboard early and often against Elder.

Finally, 16 of Los Angeles’ 23 wins have come by two or more runs this season, and the Dodgers have the lowest bullpen xFIP in baseball, while the Braves rank 18th.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Dodgers vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)

Dodgers -1.5 run line

Dustin May Over 3.5 strikeouts

Freddie Freeman Over 0.5 RBI

May has fanned five or more batters in three of his five starts, and the Braves rank ninth with a healthy 22.6 K% against righties. Additionally, May’s strikeout numbers are down from earlier in his career, with his 19.3 K% well below his 21.3% mark across his first 39 big-league starts.

Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman is locked in at the dish with an eight-game hitting streak to the tune of a .577 wOBA, 1.365 OPS, and 10 RBI. He’s also a proven hitter against right-handed arms with a .405 wOBA and .961 OPS over the past three years, including .544 and 1.313 marks across 65 plate appearances this season.
