Diamondbacks vs Brewers prediction

Diamondbacks vs Brewers best bet: Brewers -1.5 (+118)

The Milwaukee Brewers continue to rake at the plate as it sits atop the National League Central. Entering this matchup, the Brewers rank in the top three in runs scored per game, hits per game, batting average, and on-base percentage.

They outrank the Arizona Diamondbacks in each of those four categories, effectively nullifying the Diamondbacks’ greatest strength.

Not only does Milwaukee hold the hitting edge, but it also boasts the pitching advantage. Right-hander Brandon Woodruff takes the mound for the Brewers and has been sensational since rejoining the rotation.

Through eight appearances this season, Woodruff is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. His underlying metrics are even more impressive, considering he owns a 2.43 expected ERA (xERA) and .188 expected batting average (xBA).

Woodruff also ranks in the 90th percentile in average exit velocity, 95th percentile in strikeout rate and 83rd percentile in hard-hit rate. He holds a substantial edge over Arizona’s Eduardo Rodriguez, who gets the start for the Diamondbacks.

Rodriguez is 5-7 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP through 22 starts this year. His analytics are equally poor, ranking in the 34th percentile in xERA and 33rd percentile in xBA.

Rodriguez has also struggled to generate swings and misses, ranking in the bottom half of the league in both whiff rate and strikeout rate. Meanwhile, Woodruff ranks in the 74th percentile and 95th percentile in those respective categories.

Finally, Rodriguez has recorded four or fewer strikeouts in two of his past three starts.
