The St. Louis Cardinals host the Milwaukee Brewers in the opening matchup of this three-game series at Busch Stadium. MLB odds list Milwaukee as a -120 favorite, while the total sits at 7.5.

My Brewers vs. Cardinals prediction targets the total in this NL Central contest.

Read on for my MLB picks for Friday, September 19.

Brewers vs Cardinals prediction

Brewers vs Cardinals best bet: Under 7.5 (-105)

The Milwaukee Brewers hand the ball to right-handed rookie Jacob Misiorowski, and his surface-level stats don’t accurately reflect his excellence. This season, Misiorowski ranks in the 88th percentile or higher in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), and strikeout rate.

Following the right-hander is one of the best bullpens in baseball. Entering this matchup, the Brewers’ relief corps ranks in the top 10 in ERA, xERA, FIP and xFIP.

Meanwhile, St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Sonny Gray takes the mound for St. Louis. Like Misiorowski, Gray’s underlying metrics are impressive.

Gray ranks in the top half of the league in xERA, average exit velocity, strikeout rate and hard-hit rate. This success is likely to continue against Milwaukee, a team he has fared well against throughout his career.

Across 19 meetings, Gray boasts a 3.63 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.

Also like Misiorowski, Gray is followed by a strong bullpen that ranks third in FIP.

A recurring issue for the Cardinals’ pitching staff is a lack of run support. In 2025, St. Louis ranks in the bottom half of the league in runs scored per game, hits per game, slugging percentage and OPS.

Brewers vs Cardinals same-game parlay (SGP)

Gray also excels at generating swings and misses. This season, he ranks in the top third of the league in chase rate, whiff rate, and strikeout rate.

On the other hand, Misiorowski ranks in the 96th percentile in strikeout rate and has recorded six or more punchouts in seven of his past 12 starts.
