The New York Mets are hoping to break a seven-game losing streak as they return home to host the Atlanta Braves.

While New York is fighting through its worst stretch of the season, my Braves vs. Mets predictions finally expect a return to the win column tonight.

Read on to see why I think the Mets can turn their fortunes around in my free MLB picks for Tuesday, August 12.

Braves vs Mets prediction

Braves vs Mets best bet: Mets moneyline (-136 at FanDuel)

Despite limping to a 1-5 record in their most recent homestand, the New York Mets have still been a far better team at Citi Field overall, going an impressive 38-21.

Clay Holmes is also a steady hand on the mound when attempting to right the ship. Holmes is 9-6 with a 3.46 ERA, and was solid again in his last outing against the Cleveland Guardians, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings.

As a converted reliever, Holmes hasn’t been going particularly deep into games, but he has put in consistently strong efforts.

The same cannot be said for Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider, who hasn’t been quite the same pitcher in his return from injury.

His 4.04 ERA and 1.300 WHIP are career highs for a full season, and his strikeout rate has dipped to 10.7 per nine innings from a career average of 13.0. He’s also coming off a rough start in which he allowed five runs on 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

If the Mets are going to snap out of their losing streak, there’s no better time than tonight.

Braves vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)

Mets moneyline

Over 8

Juan Soto 1+ RBI

Along with taking the Mets to win tonight, I’m also backing the Over in my SGP, as I’m not enamored with this pitching matchup.

I’ll also take Juan Soto to record an RBI. Soto has knocked in a run in each of his last four games, even as the rest of the Mets lineup has struggled to generate offense.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
