Braves vs Cubs Prediction, Picks & Odds — Wednesday, September 3

Braves SP Bryce Elder has struggled mightily this season, and the Cubs offense stacks up well against him. While Chicago rookie Cade Horton has pitched well, his underlying metrics suggest some luck has been involved. The bats feast tonight.

The Atlanta Braves will look to avoid being swept by the Chicago Cubs in their series finale at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, September 3.

However, my top Braves vs. Cubs predictions and MLB picks anticipate the North Siders pulling away in a high-scoring game tonight, as they step in against struggling Atlanta SP Bryce Elder.

Braves vs Cubs prediction

Braves vs Cubs best bet: Over 8 (-120)

Chicago Cubs starter Cade Horton has shifted into cruise control with a 6-1 record, 0.86 ERA, and 0.88 WHIP across his past eight starts.

Unfortunately, the run is saddled with unsustainable underlying numbers. Horton has held opposing hitters to a .208 BABIP while stranding runners at a 96.6% clip, and it’s further reinforced by his 4.08 xFIP during the heater.

The Atlanta Braves check out as a middling offense against righties (17th-ranked wOBA) and an overall 14th-ranked wOBA over the past 30 days, so I expect them to put numbers on the board against Horton.

On the flip side, the Chicago lineup is also eyeing a statistical correction to its 27th-ranked .265 BABIP, considering the Cubbies also rank fifth in barrel rate since the calendar flipped to August.

Braves righty Bryce Elder could be just what the doctor ordered, too.

He brings a confidence-shattering 5.85 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 4.24 xFIP while serving up a healthy 43.4% hard-hit rate ahead of tonight’s start.

Braves vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

There’s plenty of room for negative regression from Horton before it’s a problem, and I expect the Chicago bats to tee off on Elder. Plus, the teams have combined for 20 runs through the first two games of the set.

Turning to Braves first baseman Matt Olson, he’s recorded a hit in seven of his past eight games while going 11-for-31 at the dish. The three-time All-Star also sports a solid .261 batting average, .374 wOBA, and .880 OPS against righties since joining Atlanta in 2022.

Horton has also allowed a .270 batting average to left-handed hitters compared to a .199 mark to righties.
