We have a busy betting slate in Major League Baseball today, including the series opener between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Guardians at Rogers Centre.

Anthony Santander is starting to earn his money as the calendar turns to May. My Blue Jays predictions expect him to continue swinging a hot bat tonight against the Guardians. Find out why with my free MLB picks for this May 2 matchup.

Blue Jays predictions for May 2

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Tony Taters good for two bags

Anthony Santander Over 1.5 total bases (+105 at BetVictor)

The calendar has flipped to May, and along with the weather, Anthony Santander is heating up.

It’s been a slow start for the Toronto Blue Jays’ prized free agent who hit just .175 in the months of March and April. That's on par for his career averages through the first month of the season.

May is when Santander typically starts to come alive each year, seeing his average rise from .204 to .263 throughout his career in the month of May, averaging 1.59 bases per outing. He’s now hit safely in back-to-back outings, and hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season two days ago.

He’s got a .266 batting average against the Cleveland Guardians, averaging 1.85 bases per game. I like Santander to stay on his career pace and go Over his total of 1.5 bases tonight and keep his hitting streak alive.

Taking to the mound for Cleveland is left-hander Logan Allen. He’s struggled a bit this season with a 1-2 record and a 4.21 ERA with an expected ERA of 4.55. Santander has faced Allen five times through his career with two hits in five at-bats.

The power hitter has always handled left-handed pitchers better than righties. Santander’s batting average and OPS both jump against southpaws.

As for Allen, he’s a contact pitcher, ranking in the second percentile in whiff rate with very little strikeouts this year. He’s averaging just 3.6 Ks per start.

This bodes well for Santander, who can square up the baseball well and put it in play. Last season he ranked in the 79th percentile in barrel rate and 77th percentile in whiff rate. He can make contact, and he can hit it hard.

I expect for him to find a gap tonight at Rogers Center, or possibly hit it into the seats. Either way, Santander’ total bases prop Over offers great value.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Anthony Santander Over 1.5 total bases

Logan Allen Under 3.5 strikeouts

Ernie Clement Over 0.5 hits

I like the Under 3.5 strikeouts for Allen. He’s got a terrible whiff rate that sits in the second percentile in the league, resulting in a lowly 3.6 Ks per start. The Blue Jays, on the other hand, are the second-most disciplined team at the plate with the second-lowest strikeout rate in the majors (19.2%).

For the final leg of our SGP, let’s take lefty masher Ernie Clement to get a hit. He has a .391 average against lefties this season and is also 2-for-2 against Allen throughout his career.
