The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to notch their 12th win in 13 games with a victory over the Athletics tonight.
It’ll be Kevin Gausman on the mound for Toronto, while left-hander Jacob Lopez toes the rubber for the A's.
Lopez has two career starts against the Jays, owning a disastrous 15.43 ERA. His last outing against Toronto saw him hit the showers early, giving up seven runs through 1 2/3 innings back on May 29.
Ernie Clement got the party started for Toronto with a three-run homer against Lopez to open the scoring, and the Jays' third baseman finished the evening a triple shy of the cycle.
Toronto's slugger was on fire in that series, going 11-for-18 with four straight multi-hit games, culminating in a series-best 1.778 OPS.
What also gives me confidence in this matchup is Clement’s numbers against left-handed pitching this season. He’s batting .396 with 15 extra-base hits, resulting in a 1.074 OPS in 106 plate appearances against southpaws.
